Your Feelings About Guns

Some people feel guns are bad and they feel better if they hate gun owners. I beg you to keep things in perspective if you hate guns. Most gun haters claim guns are an accident waiting to happen. I guess so, but walking down the street is an accident waiting to happen also. Let me show it to you. Drunk drivers are a far bigger risk than guns.

How do I “feel” about guns? That is such a queer question!

A gun is a manufactured bit of steel, mixed with some wood, maybe, or mixed with the latest polycarbonate material, in any numerous colors, these days. They might have low-level targeting aids attached, or built onto them, which does NOT discount the possibility of ‘the jerk jerking on the trigger’.

They are chambered in calibers from ‘small’, to ‘what is this thing!’ They are designed as old school revolvers, or as the newer semi-automatic pistol, or as a single- or selective-fire longgun, with mechanisms of all types, throughout the centuries.

A gun is a tool. It is a tool, no different than a tool, that you8 would find at your local hardware store.

In the hands of an American G.I., the gun has been the tool to defeat and conquer enemies of Freedom, and to secure the security of military installations world-wide, (I was a part of that.)

In the case of the bygone local policeman, the gun was a tool in deterring crime, and stopping criminals - to include the self-preservation of the police officer so endangered.

In the case of John and Jane Q. Public, the gun has been the tool to bring meat to the table, since the first landing party on these shores. It has been the tool used for self-preservation, from the same timeframe.

Today, for those who wish to demand that I answer this “feel” parameter, I extend the following statement:

It is a historical fact that ‘the gun’ has been in use in this country, since prior to its inception, through to today, as a means of self-defense and self-sustinence. That is ingrained into our national fiber, and reinforced by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the highest law of the land, (and not the President).

I am, both, a G.I. brat, as well as a military veteran. As a ‘brat’, I was involved with the Junior NRA, and won a few medals. In the military, had I not had ‘the gun’ in my hands, I would be dead, with my name added to ‘the humble wall’. As a civilian, I have used ‘a tool of distinction’ from time to time, in harvesting meat for my table. I do believe that it is the civic duty of every law-abiding American, in this day and age, to legally and responsibly, carry their own choice and chambering of ‘the gun’, for both self-preservation, (because these are bad times), and in accordance of the precepts of “The Sheepdog Principle”. (I believe that Denver would not have happened, as it did.)

Do I think that there is too much regulation of ‘the gun’? Yes. I would repeal all anti-gun laws, back to the 1968 Gun Control Act, which like all gun-control issues, was brought forward by someone who wanted to control Americans’ Freedom. It is not anyone else’s responsibility, nor choice, what kind, which mechanism, which chambering, or how many, or which material ‘the gun’ is constructed. Only mine.

Every night I sleep with my .40s&w under the pillow where my ex-wife used to sleep. I sleep more comfortably now, and feeding and maintenance of my Springfield Armory XD-M is a helluva lot less expensive than the ex.

As a child, I was told that "Jews don't 'do' guns." I questioned it early on, asking, "What about Jews in Israel?"

I was the black sheep of the family, with guns and motorcycles. How do I feel about guns? Well, I DID promise a friend, who's a master tool and die maker, and one heck of a gunsmith that I'd never take the sideplate off a S&W revolver again... I can strip a 1911 down to pins and reassemble it so it works flawlessly, but I have yet to get a S&W to work after taking off the side plate...

So I guess I'm "puzzled" by some guns, specifically S&W revolvers.

That’s probably why the 1911 is the first gun replicated by 3D printers...

(image courtesy of solidconcepts.com) Let me start out by saying one, very important thing: This is not about desktop 3D Printers. Solid Concepts is a world leader of 3D Printing services, and our ability to 3D Print the world’s first metal gun solidifies our standing. The gun is a classic 1911, a model that is at once timeless and public domain. It functions beautifully: Our resident gun expert has fired 50 successful rounds and hit a few bull’s eyes at over 30 yards. The gun is composed of 30+ 3D Printed components with 17-4 Stainless Steel and Inconel 625...

Thanks Terry. Also a milbrat+vet with many vets in the old family tree. Youngest daughter served and oldest grand-daughter has been to Iraq and back and is still in the FLNG. Yeah, “feel” would be some kind of an emotion one would attach to animate objects. Just another false flag for people who “love” their guns to make them/us look nutty. No nuttier than an abject fear of inanimate objects.

For decades the left wing media have (and still are) reported stories about murder, robbery,etc.. When ever they report a story involving a firearm it ALWAYS has to be bad.In my opinion this is to further the anti gun left wing cause.

But how many 1000’s of stories about people with guns who help save lives or even their own life never get reported?

My view on guns is simple. I don’t like oysters, to me they are nasty tasting bits of protein, but you are welcome to eat your fill. I’m a fan of Velveeta - to many people, this is the equivalent of “cheese blasphemy”; but I can go to the market and buy as much as I want. I don’t make you eat it, you don’t even have to watch me eat it. Guns? Personally, love them. Wish I could afford a lot more than I have. Do I care if you don’t want them? Nope. Do you have to buy them? Nope. You don’t have to look at mine, either. Sure would be nice if those gun haters extended the same level of respect to gun-lovers, as they demand in the pursuit of their passions.

Mmmmm - Velveeta with sausage and Rotel tomatoes makes one of my favorite dips.

Grew up w/guns and got my first BB gun at age of 4 some 57 years ago. Learned to break-down/reassemble a 1911 at age 10 and once I could do it, my Dad let me shoot it. Guns are family/heritage.

I believe the term for an abject fear of guns is called
“hoplophobia”, coined by LtCol Jeff Cooper (dec.), meaning: “mental aberration consisting of an unreasoning terror of gadgetry, specifically, weapons”.
