Retiring NYC Police Commissioner Wants 6 Taxpayer-Funded Full-Time Bodyguards
The Truth About Guns ^ | Nov 10, 2013 | Robert Farago

Posted on 11/10/2013 8:34:35 AM PST by Kip Russell

“Outgoing Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly wants to take half a dozen detectives to protect him and his family after he leaves the NYPD, DNAinfo New York has learned. “Citing the fact that he will remain a ‘high profile target’ after he leaves office, Kelly informed insiders at Police Headquarters that he will request the contingent of detectives — each will remain on the city payroll making about $120,000 a year — to shepherd him around town and protect him and his family during their travels.” Three-quarters of a million dollars to protect a former Police Chief who’s about to pull down at least that much per year as Head of Security for JPMorgan? Plus royalties from his forthcoming hagiography? And speaker’s fees that could double his income? Geddowdaheah! And while some might say “wimp” I couldn’t possibly comment.

This guy is a fraidy-cat.

How valiant of you to be so flippant with someone else's life.

What do you want to be when you finally move out of your mama's basement?

No city employee, elected or otherwise, needs a bodyguard let alone a small squad of them at the taxpayer's expense. His request for same is a prime example of the arrogance that has permeated the elected elitists of this country...........

And I will expand my statement to include every elected public servant of this country with the exception of the president and vice president...........

I agree with Poinq, however I would add that the guy is also an elitist prick..(or did I already say that?).......

As a side note, what are you doing peeking into his mama's basement window anyway you creepy pervert.........

Here's an opinion piece written by the outgoing Mr. Kelly, in which he advocates for stronger gun control, characterizing the current laws as "weak":

Good riddance, not that I expect his replacement to be any better.

It probably means one bodyguard 24/7. You need a minimum of 5 people to man a post 24/7 with 40 hour weeks. Add in vacations and the occasional time to double up, sick leave and such, and 6 seems about right.

I hate to say it, but he probably gonna need it.

Have any of his predecessors gotten a bodyguard detail after they retired? Then why does he need it when they did not?

I am not saying anything other than he got a taste of what the lefties are going to do the other day.

Remember he got the Ann Coulter treatment at some college.

None the less, I imagine ex police chiefs always worry about criminals that may want to get back.

That said, I am not saying that he should get a bodyguard detail.

I am speaking only from the viewpoint that he may have. He saw the other day what he is in for when he went to speak at Rutgers. I am sure it scared him. Those were lefties too. Seems he is asking for this after that.

I don’t live in NYC, so I really don’t know a lot about him except for what I see on the TV.

Then let this fascist live under the same laws he enforced. If he wants protection he can get out his checkbook.

You’re an idiot.

“Change the law.”? You sound like Harry Reid sticking for obama and his death panels. I’ll support Kelly’s personal Secret Service when George Zimmerman gets the same.

I saw Nixon sitting in Shea Stadium at a Mets game when I was a teenager, and went over to talk to him and get an autograph. He had no security detail, but a NYC cop sat on the end of his aisle and tried to shoo me away. Nixon said, "Let him by" and signed my ticket stub for me. I told him I was a big fan and he said, "Thank you, young man."

Jerry Seinfeld brings two bodyguards to Mets games. Donald Trump about six. But at least they pay for them out of their own pockets.
