Outgoing Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly wants to take half a dozen detectives to protect him and his family after he leaves the NYPD, DNAinfo New York has learned. Citing the fact that he will remain a high profile target after he leaves office, Kelly informed insiders at Police Headquarters that he will request the contingent of detectives each will remain on the city payroll making about $120,000 a year to shepherd him around town and protect him and his family during their travels. Three-quarters of a million dollars to protect a former Police Chief whos about to pull down at least that much per year as Head of Security for JPMorgan? Plus royalties from his forthcoming hagiography? And speakers fees that could double his income? Geddowdaheah! And while some might say wimp I couldnt possibly comment.

Let him pay for it himself. Also, he shouldn’t be allowed to carry in NYC until all law abiding citizens are allowed to constitutionally carry (i.e., no carry permits, background checks, fees, licenses, training requirements and red tape) in NY.

Did Kelly get a new law passed that restricted gun ownership, or did he just enforce an existing law?
If you're so concerned about NYC, why not move there and get the law overturned (IIRC, the Sullivan Act).

Retiring NYC Police Commissioner Wants 6 Taxpayer-Funded Full-Time BodyguardsI don't remember what was in Kelly's background that kept him from becoming The Secretary of Homeland Security?? He withdrew his nomination rather than face a confirmation hearing/fight. Now he wants protection at taxpayer's expense???? FUGETABOUTIT!!!

How valiant of you to be so flippant with someone else's life.
What do you want to be when you finally move out of your mama's basement?

Heck, I have my hands full doing what I can to get to gun rights restored here in Colorado. At least here we're making some headway with recalls of anti-gun politicians. This might...might eventually lead to unconstitutional gun-grabbing regulations being repealed.
But in NYC? No way, no how.

How many of the people who might be after him are crooked cops or mob figures he never put away?
To: Kip Russell
Well, at least they have their fingers outside the trigger guard(s), and pointed in a safe direction.

In the city of Chicago the ex-mayor gets a security detail. Everyone else goes without and we have far more gangs and murders than New York has. Lots of police retire all the time in this country. They don't get shot at. And frankly, if someone wanted to kill this guy he would be dead with or without his security detail.

Kelly spent his career attacking the 2nd amendment, he never saw a gun ban he didn’t like.

I assume 6 bodyguards means three 8-hour shifts daily with 2 guards each shift. Don't ask me about weekends.
