Don’t like Apple.
Never did.
Take a Windows box and install Linux on it.
Has anybody ever used the Apple competitor to Microsoft Office?
Apple’s suite of productivity apps, iWork which includes Pages, Numbers and Keynote (Apple’s versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, respectively) is free for new iOS 7 devices activated on or after Sept. 1, 2013.
I’d really be interested to see how it stacks up against the latest version of Microsoft Office.
I’ll take Aerogel for $100, Alex.
Pen and paper. Folks should get off mobile devices, stop texting, stop tweeting, stop doing email and pay attention/focus/think in meetings.
And yes, I’m a technology guy.
Here is the problem with the Microsoft offering...
“It runs on a full version of Windows 8.1, so users can do just about anything on a Surface Pro 2 that they would on any other Windows laptop or desktop computer. “
Bloated code. That is a lot of useless programing. Tablets serve a different niche from desktop computing.
Win8 is the crappiest platform ever devised. I’d stay away from Surface AT LEAST until Microsoft completely capitulates on that failed platform and finds a better alternative.
There are things about the IPad I don’t like. I’d prefer that the battery could be changed out and the damn thing needs a USB port. But. At least its software works.
Oh the horror, the absolute horror.... How will businesses ever figure out how to load software on their iPad.... In response to this opening slam:
“iPad Air: iPads, by nature, are not business ready. Users will have to download any productivity apps they need”
Really?
What moron came up with this line of attack?
Just how hard exactlly is it to download and install an App? The customer might sprain their finger? No mention of the many Apple genius bars out there who will custom setup your iPad when purchased.
Seems like a fake complaint to me.
My older iPad can get my officemail with no issues. It opens the attached word documents and displays them without issue. Very handy for meetings in the less well setup conference rooms.
Can’t say that I have ever tried to work on the documents from the iPad. I use the workstations for that.
Await, i take that back. I used the iMoviie to edit a vendors video down to size. None of our Windows computers had video editing software on them. The iPad worked great for chopping 15 minutes of video down to the essential 1.5 minutes of actual useable/shareable content.
BFL
Excel with VBA can build powerful and sophisticated business applications. Do in seconds and minutes what it takes hours and days.
You don't get VBA on Apple Excel.
If you want Office, PowerPoint, excel then the choice is obvious
In the real world people use Windows for business. They use Office for work.
iPads are toys, and Open Office is great if you aren’t running a large operation.
But if you listen to people on the net, you would think Open Office or Libre Office was the most used software on Earth and that businesses ran off of iPads.
you can find the comparison here buddy http://tabletvs.net/compare/Apple-iPad-4th-Generation-vs-Dell-Venue-11-Pro
