There isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t see a report about some person being mauled by a pit bull. And I’ve been seeing those stories for years. I’ve also had my own run-ins with the breed - none of them pleasant.

State legislatures really need to set up some legal guidelines for owning this breed of dog. They ought to be treated the same way as other dangerous, exotic animals.

I think a pitbull should be given to each member of congress
as a thank you gift for the bang up job they are doing.

This wasn’t Boosie’s first time attacking. Reports show Douglass and a family member had been bitten by the dog before.

Idiot!!! Thank God there were no children around.

Pitbull is not man’s best friend at all.

I had one dog in all my life turn on me.

A chow. He bit the hell out of my left hand for no reason.

He was put down the next day.

There are too many nice dogs in this world that need homes to give one to a violent breed.

If I have an old, half blind and grumpy dog turn on me I want it to be a 3 lb. Chihuahua. Pit Bulls can be cute as puppies but even the “nice ones” get old then it’s time to worry.

"“I don’t think that pit bulls are any more likely than any other breed of dog to do any more damage,” said Jen Swanson, pit bull advocate."

Unfreakinbelievable. I hope Jen doesn't have any children in her house. Ever.

My dog ever bit me he’d get one very important lesson about who the boss is.

He wouldn’t do it twice.

Never a cop around when you need one.

News stories about pit bulls are like stories about the clap, rarely anything good.

A 65 year-old Spanaway, Washington (just outside of Tacoma) woman has died today from her injuries from two pit-bulls. Nga Woodhead died from a heart attack which may have been related to her injuries which included a broken arm and lacerations. Police are waiting confirmation by autopsy that the injuries were related to the dog attacks.

Police say the woman went through surgery to have a titanium rod placed in her arm. She was just about to be released from St. Joseph's Hospital when she collapsed from a heart attack.

She was attacked October 30th while on her daily walk. It took three men to fend the dogs off of her after they also suffered bites leading one man to shoot one of them, which ran away. A witness, Alana Hall, described the scene, "One dog was hanging onto one person's arm and then onto one person's leg." Police tracked down both dogs and shot both of them.

The owner of the dogs, Santiago Quezada, does not know how the dogs got out of his fenced yard.

Santiago Quezada's fenced yard.

I had a bad encounter with a Pitt, with the aid of a 1911 45cal it was dispatched to doggie hell...good riddance.

At one time or another I've seen every one of the pit bull myths/lies listed on the link posted by some delusional pit bull owner defending the indefensible. Worth reading at least for those who don't let their emotions get in the way of the facts.

I have met many a pit bull at the dog park that are sweet as pie. Would I ever own one? Probably not. Dogs are bred for specific purposes and pit bulls were bred for fighting in the dog pit. (Hence the name) If you have owned a dog bred for a specific purpose (herding, pointing, retrieving, going to ground) and observe them doing the job they were bred for they are “in the zone”. I have a Jack Russell mutt and if she gets a scent in a hole she is all over it, head in, butt up and tail going a mile a minute. It is hard to snap her out of it. I imagine a pit bull on the attack is the same thing. I don’t think pit bulls should be banned or anything like that but the owners must be held responsible for dogs under their care.

Pit Bulls are owned by two types of people.

People who are stupid and people who want to use the dog for intimidation.

The dogs are basically useless except to intimidate neighbors.

Pit bull or mouse, ANY animal that believes it’s superior to a human and bites that human needs a quick, on the spot death. Period. I’ve killed many dogs under that philosophy and never been prosecuted for it. And bite my tongue, the police were always on my side.

If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit. But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:28-29)
