“I just bought my first Mosin Nagant 91/30. There are many interesting variants out there and Id look for something that catches my eye and with $3-$400 to spend, maybe a few of them.”
Was looking at Mosins this past weekend at Cabelas for $129. More than fine enough shootin’ iron for the money but I’ve just never been real interested in owning one. The milsurp I want is a decent Springfield.
For $3-400 I really don’t know what you’d go hot after at the average gun show. “Ammo” was a good response. There are firearms to be had in that price range but they can be had at the local gun shop or pawn so they aren’t rare.
So, yeah, and again for $3-400, and if I just had that money burning a hole in my pocket for the gun show, I’d probably try to find the best Mosin I could and spend the rest on 7.62x54 for it. That would simply be the most firearm and ammo for it for the money.
PMR 30
$500.00
(They are so rare, I doubt the seller would take that amount.)
Correct. The CZ52 is an interesting handgun, rather over-engineered (it uses a short recoil operating system with two rollers, similar to the MG42 machine gun). It's not too hard to find Czech ammo that has a steel core, making it quite effective against soft body armor.
CZ82 Makarov. For that amount of money you may be able to get two.
They were going for about $1K post-Sandy Hook, but the hysteria is finally dying down...you can get them for about $650 on Gunbroker (still too high, IMHO).
Of course, there's no point in my wanting one, now that Colorado bans magazines over 15 round. Grrrr.
No. 4 Enfield.
$200 - $300.
Second that. Excellent handgun for the money.
I stripped the finish off it and the Russian birch underneath sure isn’t carpathian walnut but i like about 3-4 iterations of a light oil finish buffed up between each oiling and the wood should get mellow. The iron looks good and the bore actually looks crisp. It’s from 1943.
I’ve got the battlefield pick-up Mauser my father got back in the early ‘40’s when he was a “government employee” and it shoot fine but almost refuses to feed from the magazine. I’m in the market for a gunsmith who can fix that.
These WWII rifles are full of history and I’d love to own a garand if I can find one at a decent price.
IIRC, the milspec ammo is rated at 1,500 fps, but capable of handling somewhat hotter handloads.
You’re not going to get much for 3-4 hundred bucks these days.
Maybe stock up on ammo in difficult-to-find calibers (almost all these days) and you might find spare magazines for your curio/relic items.

Stay safe
IMO, gun shows have turned into ripoffs of late. Unless you found a true deal, I would avoid buying there.
I’ve been wanting a second and maybe a third CZ82. One of my favorite shooters. I hit with it as well or better than any other pistol.
I’ve also been thinking about getting a second S&W 4506/4506-1. I saw a two pistol set up with a pair of SW1006’s and though well I have a 4506...
Ruger LCP/LC9 is on my list also, but they are in about every gun shop.
Finn M27
Carcano M91-38 carbine (yes, I'm serious)
Lee-Enfield No 5 Jungle Carbine
As much .30-06 M2 ball as I could carry.
I guess that is it.
Tokarev TTs are still common and cheap and shoot the same kevlar-vest-munching round. Get a couple today.
Prices are up. Expect to pay $400+ for a nice one.
The last two “gun” shows I’ve attended haven’t had many guns. Mostly just ninja gear and cheesy ChiCom “tacticool” widgetry. Does anyone really use those huge combination red-dot-green-dot sight/laser/backup iron sight/scope mount doodads?
gundog has a birthday coming up. Just sayin’....
