Polish Nobel peace laureate Lech Wałęsa on Monday called for a new “secular Ten Commandments” to underpin universal values, addressing a summit of Nobel Peace Prize winners in Warsaw.
“We need to agree on common values for all religions as soon as possible, a kind of secular Ten Commandments on which we will build the world of tomorrow,” he said in an opening speech kicking off the three-day summit. …

There are no universal values in secularism. Where could they come from? If they come from men, they can’t be universal, because they would be subject to our “cultural biases”. If they come from someone other than men, secularists won’t accept them.
You would think he’d be warier of social orders built upon unaided human intellect.
Uhhh, how can anything secular be considered "universal"? Apart from God there is no basis for an objective ethic. Apart from God there is only social conventiona and personal preferance.

Lech was the right man at the right time. He’s not exactly Solzhentisyn in the deep thought department, and has probably been hanging around some bad apples who are doing a good job of steering him. A great and decent man, badly miscasting himself.
The ‘Great’ Lech Walesa, champion of ‘solidarity’ in the face of real Communism, who had a great silent contributing partner in the last late pope, as history has recorded, has just lifted his cur leg, and wet that other guy’s headstone!
Karma may happen, but I tend to entertain the idea, with this new profound statement of accepted humanist secularism, that there might be someone who would take this as a direct insult, and take some kind of some action to vindicate the late John Paul 2.

Sorry, Lech, but limiting any socialist to only 10 Commandments isn’t going to work. Ten thousand, maybe.
I don’t believe that...I think that was disinformation put out by the Communists to try to discredit him.
BTW there is a new movie coming out about Walesa directed by Andrzej Wajda.
