I was wondering how strong the environmental movement is in Japan. Certainly the nuclear accident is an issue, but to apologize for being there is a certain kind of crazy. Environmentalists are/have been pushing for smaller families. It sounds like they may have pushed these folks over the edge!

Over the years I’ve read different things, in Italy they blame the taxes as making it too expensive to have children and a family.
In America we have daily stories about how the children are being targeted by abortion, piss poor schools, Taxes constantly going up, pedophiles, Divorce of families and of course the multi-generational welfare family with no Father’s present during the kids childhoods.
In Japan I’ve heard several different things over the years but I think it comes down to the ‘toys’ both electronic and sexual. By the time a man or woman comes home from a long day at work they might have had a Saki or two, then plays with the latest gadget, TV show or movie, etc. Then goes to bed for a little sleep before doing it all over again the next day.
End result though is that in all first world countries there is a lot more to do besides have sex unlike the third world countries where sex is the main recreation activity.
And with the lack of sex intended for producing a child then the population will necessarily decrease over the next couple of generations.

Oldest living population of any nation, no immigration, tanking economy, and it doesn’t make financial sense to get married or have kids.
Now they’re in a rush to devalue their currency faster than everyone else.
Pretty bleak.
Simple answer is the war on men in industrialized societies.
When men can again have vastly more economic, social, and legal power than women, more men would be willing to marry and start families.
Not only would that distribution of powers make men happy, but it would make any sane woman happy too.
(Women despise girly men who support women’s equality—whether those women know it or not; it’s in their genes, as well it should be.)

The real issue is the depraved culture, the 75 hour work week, the complete objectification of women.

The other thing is that I predict, in 100-200 years or so, human beings will discover that this is one of the side effects of having a very educated female populace. Sociologists probably already realize this, but are ignoring it because the population continues to grow. But in 150-200 years, we will have significant population declines—some races (like the Japanese) may even face extinction.
If the population really starts to crash, then the human race will have to make some tough choices. And my gut tells me women won’t like it.
The government might be forced to end up paying a baby bounty to young marrieds....because the insular Japanese will never "open their golden door to the world's huddled masses and wretched poor"....like we do.

Homogenous societies like theirs built on ancestor worship and this culture of face-saving, lying to people to save face, warped sense of honor and duty only used to coerce people into doing stuff they don’t want to do, or don’t do things they do want to do,
combined with way too many demands for perfection in mates, on both sides,
in addition to being largely secular and godless (again ancestor worship/shinto, if anything)
has led this country to the brink of insanity.
