(CNN) -- In the last few months, the word rippled through news reports of tragic teen suicides in Connecticut, New York, Nova Scotia and Britain.
It's the same word sometimes used to describe the way reality TV stars treat one another on camera, or how unfriendly office mates interact or why grade school pals stop getting along.
Every parent, teacher and child knows the word: "bullying." But this month, as schools and communities launch fresh campaigns around National Bullying Prevention Month, some are urging more precise use of the B-word.
"Bullying," some researchers say, has been misused and abused in the last few years -- too casually uttered about every hurt, slight and fight, too frequently used in place of "teasing" or "fighting," too often brought up before there's proof it happened.
The very word, some say, has been bullied.
"By calling everything bullying, we're actually failing to recognize the seriousness of the problem,"

Very long article at the link. But its all on one page and it (IMO) takes an honest look at bullying.
The term ‘Cyber Bullying’ is just more crap being shoveled by the media. Another sign of parental control asleep.
Bang on. Important to note kids who get picked on can’t fight back nowadays because of strict zero-tolerance for violence policies. There was a time when you earned your stripes by beating the snot out of whoever was being a douchebag.
There was an article yesterday about officials looking to charge some teens and their parents for bullying a child who killed herself after being bullied.
Yet the real bullies at schools are the administrators themselves.
Case in point is the suicide of that 15 year old boy who streaked at a high school football game. When the principal and officials threatened the boy with being charged with and labeled as a “sex offender” - he killed himself.
nail on head.
Kids are told to stand up to bullies but then told not to fight back or they will get in trouble.
If boys want to fight each other then let them. When we were in school the teachers never cared if we had a fight right at the school gates off the school grounds and even if we did have a fight in school we were told to move on.
Today kids are suspended and today boys are becoming little skinny pansy wussies who would cry if they got their nails dirty.
Fer sure. Are you being cyber bullied on your Facebook?
THEN TURN THE DAM THING OFF. And get a life.
Part of the indoctrination machine telling boys they have to be effeminate girls.
We had a kid in our scout troop who, while not really a classic bully engaged in such behavior. He just didn’t know how to not be the best at everything.
My kid was his main target. I’m the Scoutmaster, so I need to walk a fine line. One day, my son had enough and went for the jugular. Even though I was right there, I took my time breaking it up.
Problem solved.
I’ve got mixed feelings on this. In a sense we are a nation of wussies but on the other hand, bullying seems to reach a level far beyond what it did when I was a teenager in the 80s. Another issue is the acceptable targets like the kid wearing a pro life t-shirt.
Hell I was bullied in school too until I got sick of it and dealt with it. Within a few years after leaving school I was downright friendly with some of those who had bullied me. I saw it simply as a part of growing up.
And it's not the definition that the left wants to push:
disapproving of homosexuality
Manc nailed it in post six.
Back in the day - bullies were dealt with appropriately. Nowadays even a confident self-aware kid who has it all together can’t respond appropriately to a bully.
And after awhile - the verbal damage a bully can do will mess up even the most normal of us. Especially kids. Especially in a government school setting.
Bringing back corproal punishment in our schools (and in our homes) would be great step forward.
Some of the biggest bullies are in the White House and the MSM!!!!
The problem is that some never grow up, and not only that they take their bullying to the voting booth. Using the anonymity of the ballot box they pummel the honest citizen into poverty, submission, and ruin.
Obama = exhibit A
Actual bullying, many educators and social scientists say, is intentional, repetitive abuse by a powerful person toward a less powerful target. There is a saying that you should never get into a fight with someone who buys his ink by the carload. That would tend to qualify a journalist as a powerful person - and thus a potential bully.
Maybe the problem is there are too many stupid parents who let their 12-year old daughters “date” boys and have unrestricted access to Facebook, as was the case with the suicide in this case.
Obama, Reid, and McCain are all bullies, according to the new definitions.
It is primarily the gay agenda which is driving the entire bullying thing.
BULLY! today is no different than WITCH! was back in the day. It is just another vector for PC control of people. First charge the word with more meaning than it ever held in the past, then redefine it at you will and leisure . It’s for the children, you know...
