A Dear Abby column this week featured a concerned mom who had learned that the condoms she was buying for her 17-year-old daughter were being given to her daughters friends.
The mom, who was proud that her daughter felt comfortable enough to confide in her, was concerned about the price of supplying multiple sexually-active teenagers with condoms, but alas, she considered that perhaps this expense was worthwhile if I can help to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. The question, from Safe Sex Advocate in Iliinois, went like this:
DEAR ABBY: My 17-year-old daughter confided that she has become sexually involved with her boyfriend and asked if I would buy condoms for her. I agreed that she should protect herself and bought her a box of 12.
A week later, she informed me that she needed another 12-pack. When I asked why she had run out so quickly, she confessed that she has been supplying them to her girlfriends. Apparently they cant confide in their moms the way she can with me.
My dilemma is that condoms are expensive and, on one hand, I dont want to be the one supplying a group of kids. On the other hand, if I can help to prevent an unwanted pregnancy, maybe its worth it. What do you think I should do? Safe Sex Advocate in Illinois
How do you think dear old Abby responded? Basically, she broadcasted a free advertisement for Planned Parenthood. Heres how it went:
DEAR SAFE SEX ADVOCATE: If your daughters friends are old enough to be sexually active, they and their boyfriends should also be responsible enough to provide their own birth control. Generally, teens do not need the permission of their parents to receive information about it. Because you want to help them avoid unwanted pregnancies (as well as STDs), direct them to the nearest Planned Parenthood Center for low-cost or no-cost birth control and instruction on how to use it. There are 18 of these health centers in Illinois. To find the one closest to you, go to PlannedParenthood.org.
A few reasons why referring vulnerable teens to Planned Parenthood may not have been Abbys brightest moment:
-Planned Parenthood makes a lot of money off of sexually active teens who do become pregnant and pursue abortion.
The Washington Times: abortion continues to account for the overwhelming majority of Planned Parenthoods services for pregnant women, making up 92 percent of the organizations pregnancy services.
-Planned Parenthood helps to keep parents out of the reproductive health choices of their daughters by encouraging girls to seek judicial bypass in regions where parental consent is required before an abortion is performed on a minor. That means Planned Parenthood wants to help your daughter procure an abortion and profit off the price tag from whomever is paying for it without your knowledge or consent. Planned Parenthood markets itself as pro-parent, but when parents get in the way of profits, they hit the bottom of the totem pole.
-Planned Parenthood has been caught failing to report sexual abuses on underage girls (like those to whom condoms were being provided by the mom above). No loving parent especially not the type of concerned mother who wrote to Abby wants their daughter to go through the type of anguish (like statutory rape) which Planned Parenthood has been documented perpetuating on minor girls.
Planned Parenthood is undoubtedly grateful for Abbys free commercial, but if the concerned mom knew the facts about Planned Parenthood that Abby forgot to mention, maybe she would think twice before sending minors to them.
More like daughter is a skank.
When I asked why she had run out so quickly, she confessed that she ... is a complete slut.
I thought Abby died years ago.
“Abby” is just a liberal mouthpiece. I would never read her columns.
Why blame the daughter when mom encourages it?
Why is she “buying” condoms? All she has to do is call OBayMe, Pelosi, Reid, Boxer, Feinstein, Sebelius, or go before Congress and they will give her thousands to last them a lifetime. Well, maybe, a few years at the rate they’re going.
Not blame, pity. I fully blame the mom.
I thought my tax dollars were buying free birth control and condoms for studs and sluts everywhere.
> I thought my tax dollars were buying free birth control and condoms for studs and sluts everywhere.
Their is a silver lining though. They won’t be producing new liberals as fast...
Has Sandra Fluke made a statement yet?
Gone are the days when you had to ask the pharmacist for a pack of Trojans behind the counter. They are right there on display and any 17 year old can buy their own without mommy.
> I thought Abby died years ago.
Maybe she was one of 0’s supporters. They seem to be anle to vote from beyond the grave. And here I though 0 didn’t believe in the afterlife.
Actually I think Abby’s daughter writes it now.
“Abby” went to the dark side years ago.
Nothing but queer manufactured quandaries and advice to legitimize and validate a corrupted culture.
Can’t you get free condoms at planned parenthood? Are those people doing ANYTHING other than killing babies?
Hard to see the downside of keeping white liberals from reproducing.
She’s 17 and she doesn’t have her own spending money for her entertainment? She doesn’t need a box of condoms, she needs a job.
This is not your mother’s Dear Abby.
They're vastly cheaper than dinner and a movie traditionally provided before the mattress mamba. Is she getting the steel belted radial ones?
