I HAVE TWO BUSH BEANS! I GREW TWO BEANS!

I, all by myself, who never grew anything, grew bush bean plants from seed, planted those beans, I have between six-eight plants, in grow bags and they are sitting on the dirt garden cover. I went out just now because a tall sesame plant was bending over, so I staked it up and looked at the other plants. Two tomato plants looks stronger than the others and they might, accidently, get a flower sometime. Then, I saw A BEAN. How did it grow and I not see it grow? Looked on the other bean plants and found another BEAN.

GLORY! BEANS!

I’m going to put a net over those bean plants before tonight so a squirrel won’t get those beans. The big net room should be here tomorrow or the next day, then all plants will be protected from the FREAKING SQUIRRELS.

“Yay, beans! Hallelujah! Thanks for letting us participate in your joy!”

Gardeners on this thread grow food all the time so it’s old hat with them. Not for me. I have to prove to myself I can grow food. Every small success means I’m closer to doing that. I’m positive I can get seed to germinate, but actually producing the food is “iffy” yet as that is not proven.

So when is the big bean bash at your place?

Congrats, BTW. I knew you could do it. Mainly because you are stubborn. ;)

Marcella,
I’m continually fascinated and amazed about The Creator’s works. There is nothing “old hat” about growing things and people. What is the most amazing thing is that so many things that could go wrong don’t. Look at you and your functional status. You are amazing! (And a hoot!) You will have the mysteries of growing food down pat very soon.

Congratulations on your beans! Circle this date on your calender.

Give thanks to the Lord.

Oh, sorry, that was Jay Bush, different bush.

Never mind.

Have a safe trip.

Thought you might enjoy this story. We have been away quite a bit this summer and fall, so my fall gardening chores have been somewhat neglected. Among the tasks that I have not kept up, even when we were here, was turning my compost. A few weeks ago, I found a great excuse for not doing the dirty job, as I had some vines growing in there. The only one that I recognized was tomato. (But I am not really that experienced with gardening.)

Anyway, we went away most recently for a two-week trip. Before we went away, I was able to harvest quite a few cherry tomatoes from my compost bin, but, when we returned last week, I was astounded to find two nice-sized cucumbers — something I have never grown — and a cantaloupe — something else that I have never grown — that was 9 inches in diameter!

Last week, we got back from

There is nothing “old hat” about growing things and people.

Every year, when the bulbs start showing in the spring, and later, when planted seeds begin to germinate and grow, it is a miracle all over again. I never tire of it.

I HAVE TWO BUSH BEANS! I GREW TWO BEANS!

Congratulations on your beans. I killed two things this week. a Possum and a raccoon.

I hope that was the possum who was living in the eaves, so I can close the ends back up before something else moves in there.

It must be prime real estate as I've had a no tail squirrel, possums, and raccoons in there.

Today is Columbus Day. I will not forget I found my first two beans on Columbus Day.

That's why we like each other - two stubborn people.

Just got an email from Amazon and my net room will not be here until the 17th. Rats, that's 5 more days.

My four sweet potato plants in the 10 gallon grow bag have beautiful green leaves on the vines. I wonder if there are any sweet potatoes under that soil? Sure, there must be, right?

You can carefully dig around with your hands and find out. Just don't disturb them.

I'm going to get some sweet potatoes from the neighbor. She doesn't want them in her flower bed (we still don't know how they wound up growing there) and I want the pretty ground cover that is edible.

I don't like sweet potatoes, but I did find a recipe for making booze out of them.

I have a sweet potato on my kitchen table that has sprouted. I think it’s too late to root and plant the slips for this year, but found this interesting (with pictures) of how to root your own slips, plus some comments from folks who just planted the eyes, or whole sweet potato.

Marcella, you posted a list once of some handy medical supplies. I purchased every off the links you supplied except the packets that stop bleeding. Could you tell me what brand you recommended? I can’t find the link now and wanted to purchase some.

I had a rather short, loud, heavy rain, thunderstorm about 6:30am. Then, it rained another time this afternoon.

Hmm, my rain gauge will show yesterday’s and today’s, but it may rain overnight, too. Right after I put net over the bean plants and came in yesterday, it poured. Then, 40% chance tomorrow.
