It is moronic because it is worth far more alive than dead.

Not to these particular hunters. They can sell the skin, or stuff it.

Hunting season is hunting season. If it's moose hunting season, and they have a hunting license, then they can bag a moose. Doesn't matter if it's brown, white, or pink with purple stripes.

How so? I'm trying to think of a way these hunters could have made money on the moose by leaving it alive, and I'm stumped.

If they had put the hide on Ebay, on the the other hand, they would probably would have made a nice bundle of cash.

Worth more...to whom? If not harvested by the hunters the value to them would have been zero. Obtaining the meat makes it infinitely more valuable to the hunters than zero. If they also gave value to the hide that makes it more valuable still to the hunters. So, to the hunters that found the moose it was worth far more dead than alive. So, once again, who is to benefit had they not shot the moose?

Assuming they can catch it...

They learned from that nasty King Kong fiasco.
