Divided government requires bipartisan negotiation
By Eric Cantor, Published: October 8
Eric Cantor, a Republican from Virginia, is the House majority leader.
For three years, Congress and the White House have been building to this moment. Not the debt limit or Obamacare specifically, but this clarifying moment of Washington dysfunction. President Obama has led us here by continually thwarting the will of Congress and dismissing its role in our constitutional republic. This must end.

Cantor has been silent for a while, I assume it's because he's not on the slimdown band wagon.
His article though is spot on and exactly what needs to be said and repeated .... repeatedly. It should have even included references to out of control Justice department, an abused IRS and other organizations that have refused to submit to legislative oversight.
Let’s hope that Cantor makes a difference. This is getting good. I suspect that Obama and the Dems are really hurting about now.
I pray-literally—that Obama has so overplayed his hand that he’s shown his ass!
hear, hear... i have been a fan of Eric Cantor in the past, and i have been a disappointed critique more recently... but this is spot on... i want this from our Representatives all the time!
That won’t happen. He’ll be there for three more years, but he’s deeply weakened and if the GOP can handle it right, they’ll be a majority in both Houses. The error in the previous election was division and the GOPe throwing a hissy fit, thereby losing close races they should have won.
They don’t seem likely to make that mistake again.
Too bad this post will get sorted by the mods for not using the proper title from the oped.
That being said, the comments section of the wapo is controlled by obamabots.
What is ‘sorted by the mods’?
IMHO the title is close enough, it directly references the house majority leader, the author of the article posted, in context.
The actual title of the article is “Divided government requires bipartisan negotiation”.
You are supposed to post the article under that title, for search purposes, and also to prevent duplicates.
Besides, if everyone made up their own titles to their article posts, it would be anarchy here.
You should not replace a headline with your own commentary.
Very good article by the majority whip. Spot on. In fact, the way it is written almost sounds like he’s laying the ground work for something else.
I’ll put it bluntly: if the GOP holds their ground, they win both houses in 2014. By 2015, with the behavioral patterns of the executive, calls for impeachment would soon follow.
Got it. Guess I was too excited with the fact that Cantor is finally getting behind the house members.
My phone “fixed” “zotted” to “sorted.”
Just be warned - the mods quite regularly pull articles if the title is not an exact match. Comments should be parenthetical, such as all the (Barf Alerts!)
Checks and balances
Divided government DOES require bipartisan negotiation. Negotiation requires BOTH sides to discuss and give.
The democrats rammed Obamacare down our throats on a completely partisan manner. There was no negotiation, no discussion. They got their majorities and did everything they wanted.
Tell me again, how did this process represent bipartisan negotiation?
Is this question for me? Because you're totally missing the context of the article.
Nah, it was just kind of a rant. Sorry bout that!
