Tattooed American Women

Posted on 10/06/2013 2:49:36 AM PDT by AlexW

While I have not been in America for almost ten years, I do watch American TV via my G-sat. My most popular channel is the History Channel. What shocks and amazes me is that most all of the women on all of the programs are slathered with Tattoos. Is this a new phenomena in America? Have women degraded themselves to such an extent? Some may think it cool. I think it is disgusting.

It is disgusting, you’re absolutely right. Seeing young women marked up like that is like seeing the Mona Lisa spray-painted with graffiti.

Yes, it's unreal. You even notice when a woman doesn't have visible tattoos (or piercings) since it is so expected now. I often ask my wife (who has a tiny one on her ankle) if they issue tattoos in high school now. I spent 5 years in the service and many years in security & bouncing and I have never seriously considered getting my body marked in such a way. Why? What does it do for you?

Piercings too, at least those can be removed.

It’s gonna be really nasty a few decades from now when there’ll be tatted up old ladies everywhere.

I agree. Covering God’s ultimate gift to you with graffiti.
Not a good idea. Start a tattoo removal business and get rich.

Yes, I have no problem with those. I think my daughter back in Memphis has a discrete one somewhere on her body.
The ones that have their bodies painted with them are disgusting and ugly.

"Start a tattoo removal business and get rich."

Especially if it's covered by obamacare.

Looks like more women than men now do have tattoos:

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/05/26/more-american-women-than-men-are-tattooed/

When 23% of American women have tattoos, it has clearly moved beyond being an edgy counter-culture thing—even if that is what it symbolizes to those getting them.

Kind of like when so many lawyers and investment bankers move into SoHo or the Village in Manhattan that it no longer signifies anything about their being artsy or counterculture.

In days of old it was a sailor's insignia for good luck. Wow, imagine the needle techniques in the 18th century...ooouch, infection, death. It was also associated with the criminal elements.

Tattooing has become cool, that's all. It's a peer pressure thing. To have one makes you unique, cool, individual and bold. Not to have one is seen as boooooring.

I think it “cheapens” people who have them, it looks like the woman might be a slut while the man a criminal. There has been research as of late pointing out that women with tattoos get picked up by guys at beaches faster than women without them.
Of course they do, the guy looking for a tattooed babe must assume she'll be “easier” than a more conservative girl. Stands to reason.

The ungodly tattooing is nothing compared to the absolutely satanic body alterations many are undergoing in the more liberal, urban regions. Sub-cutaneous inserts, piercings, skewerings, splittings and even amputations all spring from the same diabolical worship of the idol of self.

I never saw it in America, except for a discrete tattoo
on something like an ankle. I never noticed them when living in central Europe. I do, however, see them as VERY prominent
on the History channel women. It is hard for me to believe that it is so common now.

Last year my wife and I took a couple of the grand kids to Disney. While there, my wife remarked that she thinks we're the last two adults in America not to have tattoos. I don't get the whole tattoo thing. I could see maybe a cross or "mom" or something that if you have to look at it every day will at least be meaningful. But so often tattoos are just something stupid - sometimes even cartoon characters.

We do enjoy those "I regret my tattoo" shows. Two thoughts occur to me every single time I watch that program - 1) Of all the stupid tattoos all over your body, THAT'S the tattoo you regret and 2) why are you taking a small, ugly tattoo and turning it into a big, ugly tattoo?

Everything about a tattoo is wrong (imo) whether male or female.

My first memories of tats were on the arms of servicemen and criminals back in the fifties.

It seems the tat industry exploded in the 90's or something.

A tatted woman causes embarassment especially for a man because if we have any desire for art, we're drawn to try to determine what the hell IS that picture anyway on a moving female body... and we're not supposed to stare like that.

Slathered? The only women I’ve seen “slathered” with tattoos were on a reality show about tattoos.

It’s very gross and almost seems to have happened over night...body mutilation, what’s up with that.

A manic guy came into the place I worked one day. He really was being a pain in the patoot, though he had been taken care of. He decided that he had to show us all his tattoos. He had parrot on his upper arm. I said, “Dude, when you’re 80...that’s gonna be a vulture.”

I was up to Vancouver BC on business this year. Driving through the local towns and assorted areas, I was shocked at the number of tattoo and piercing shops. It was like on every strip mall and corner.
Guess the Canucks really like that crap.
As far as tat removal, it would be a great business. Need a medical license and a faily large amount of capitol to invest for the laser.
You could name the business, : WHAT WAS I THINKING?
But it seems most have no regrets.
Now the stupid stretched earlobe thing?
That’s a money maker for Docs to repair. Scissor snip and a few stitches, repeat on other side, $15,000. Payment prior to procedure!
