Katie Holmes Celebrates 100 Years of Mayonnaise

Katie Holmes might have distanced herself from the Church of Scientology, but few could doubt her dedication to egg-based sauces, as was shown this week with her becoming the face of Hellmann’s Mayonnaise.

The actress posed next to a massive cake shaped like a Hellmann’s jar at the company’s 100th birthday on Pier 84 in New York.

Going a little off message, Holmes told USA Today about the non-mayonnaise-centric dishes she likes to cook, saying she ‘flourishes at pancakes.’

‘I love food. I’m working on being a better cook,’ she explained. ‘I flourish at pancakes. I do sea bass, too.

Katie Holmes celebrates 100 years of mayonnaise Katie Holmes was all smiles as Hellmann’s entered its 100th year of making mayonnaise (Picture: AP) ‘Every little thing I do, I take a thousand pictures and send them to my older siblings. “See, I can do it, too”.’

The fun didn’t stop at Katie Holmes leaning gingerly on a table however, with Hellmann’s also breaking the Guinness World Record for longest picnic table at the event, which now stands at 320ft.

The Batman Begins actress may have picked up her PR expertise from ex-husband Tom Cruise, who was previously seen running along the Great Wall of China for some reason.

I like Miracle Whip for sandwiches and Hellsmans for other things.

My Wife likes Miracle Whip, I never cared for it.

Growing up, my Best Friend’s Mom put Miracle Whip on the sandwiches she would make for us. I still cringe thinking about it.

The best comparison I have:

Best Foods / Hellmans = Orange Juice.
Miracle Whip = Tang.

But hey, enjoy. You only live once...

I was at Gene and Judes once...ONCE. (didn't see what the big deal was)

I'll have to look up Plush Pup. (I'm just a few towns over)

For my dogs it depends what I'm in the mood for.
ALWAYS ketchup
At times Ketchup and lite mustard.
Or Ketchup and tomato
Or Ketchup, tomato and lite mustard
Or Ketchup, tomato and lite pickle relish
Or Ketchup, tomato, lite relish and lite mustard.
Sometimes with a little celery salt (but usually most places put on too much)

I have a Portillos 2-1/2 miles from my house, so I'm there quite often.
Hotdogs
Chili dogs
Eyetalian Beeeefs
Combos
Maxwell Street Polish...mmmmm....

The only way for me to eat a polish is with mustard and grilled onions. (ESPECIALLY at Comiskey watching the WHIITE SAHKS...oh yeah...US Cellular...Nah...its Comiskey)

As a kid, my grandma would make me salad dressing sandwiches for a snack. A slice of bread with some salad dressing folded in half...yum...

She’s already past that stage of her career... she doffed her top right after Dawson’s Creek ended, to kickoff her movie career. This was referenced in a hilarious scene in “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle”, where two stoners refuse to leave their couch because that movie is on cable and they don’t want to “miss the moment”.

Actually, Miracle Whip is good on BLTs for some reason. If you want something different, try Thousand Island dressing on a BLT. That’s one I invented as a kid when I hated mayo but found BLTs too dry without some condiment. Secret sauce :)

My grandma had a few of those “Depression recipes” too. One of them was “Irish spaghetti”, which was spaghetti noodles with ketchup instead of tomato sauce. Thankfully, she never cooked that after the Depression was over :)

One that she did make sometimes was “Poor Man’s Cake”... which was a raisin cake cooked with saved bacon grease instead of butter. That was delicious, and my mom still saves her bacon drippings to make it.
