Lost in the 1950s Part II [And some 1960s tossed in also]
Lost in the 1950s- The Cherry Bowl Drive In [And record covers from my childhood] ^
Posted on 09/23/2013 5:21:48 PM PDT by Bender2
Did a little more looking and came up with more 1950s record albums [and some 1960s thrown in, too] that were either owned me, my family or ones that I saw at friends houses or just know of being around. Enjoy!

I have a lot of those. In Seattle, before our move to Kentucky, looking for something to do my wife and I got hooked on estate sales. I ended up purchasing roughly 1500 records in bulk, 20 here a hundred there. We kept the 800 best and gave away the rest.
It’s a blast listening to that stuff on vinyl, while enjoying a makers mark (I’m just a little ways from their distillery now) and watching a few of my 22 lava lamps dance.

Al Hirt was so good you had to post him twice! I’d like to hear the Chet Baker and Art Pepper album.

Great stuff. Except for Danny and the Juniors, at the time not respected by rock’s con-a-sewers (and for good reasons -square.)

I’ve got “26 Miles” by the Four Preps” (didn’t come with a picture jacket as a 45, at least in my hood); The Beatles Second Album; Herb Alpert’s Whipped Cream; Rusty Warren’s “Knockers Up” (no jacket, darn it);Vaughn Meader’s “First Family” - a funny takeoff on the Kennedy family, and a few others.
Wish I had the Mills Brothers. If you want to hear real singing, these brothers did it - smooth, clean, and just enjoyable.
Also wish I had Shelley Fabreges back when I was young. Talk about a beautiful young lady, though Sherry Jackson wasn’t bad either (Star Trek - hot, hot, hot!)
BENDER 2: you’ve got a really varied collection with some of the all-time great singles and albums. They represent the breadth, width and depth of the American creative musical soul, unmatched by anyone else.

Upon further review, I would love to hear Roddy McDowall read ‘The Call Of Cthulhu’.

They really knew how to make album covers in those days. BTW, I didn’t realize Brenda Lee was that cute!

I have the Brubeck Album. The rest, not so much. I do like some of the Ventures material (old surf rock is fun stuff).
