Brave black labrador Jet is lavished with praise after springing into action to save her registered blind owner's one-year-old son
A guide dog saved the life of a baby by shoving the little boys pram out of the way of an out-of-control car.
Black labrador Jet sprung into action when her owner Jessica Cowley was crossing the entrance to a car park with her one-year-old, Jacob in his buggy.
A car coming out of the car park was shunted from behind and knocked Jessica over.
But clever Jet immediately pushed Jacobs pram out of the way.
Jessica, 26, who is registered blind as she has tunnel vision, said: What she did was extremely brave and I am very proud of her.
Jacob escaped with just a cut lip.
So grateful: Jet with owner Jessica Cowley and her son Jacob
Recalling the incident Jessica, married to IT analyst James, 26, said: Just after we stepped off the kerb I heard a screeching of a car and it banged into me sending me flying.
"Just before it hit me Jet pulled her harness out of my hand and actually pushed the pram out of the way.
"The pram toppled over but Jacob was out of danger.
She reacted really quickly. Jet was worried about me but once she had licked my face and checked I was conscious, she was fine.
The incident happened outside the surgery of vet Caroline Purnell, in Leigh, Greater Manchester, who rushed to help.
She said: It demonstrates exactly how important these dogs are. Jet showed no concern for her own safety.
Jessica, who was taken to hospital with extensive bruising but is recovering at home in Leigh, added: Jet is trained to help me but shes not trained to do that sort of thing.
It doesnt bear thinking about what might have happened if she hadnt have done what she did.
Labs rule.
Many other dogs drool.
OMG, that dog has such a loving, expressive face.
Beautiful dog and beautiful family.
I’m basically just a crazy cat lady at heart (though I am married, with children, and have only 1 cat!) but.... this is a wonderful story. All I can say to Jet is: GOOD DOG!!!
black labs are the most protective of young kids. they just do it.
when i was 4 learning to bike ride on our sidewalks, our neighborhood black lab, sage, would physically get between me and the road. my dad saw him do it a number of different times.
black labs are inherent protectors. overall wonderful and smart too.
Many dogs and cats are angels with fur, gifts from above.
(The light just gets absorbed everywhere.)
Good doggie!
I gave my old yellow lab hunting dog to a friend with kids when I moved. He wouldn’t let the UPS man out of the truck when the kids were in the yard until they were formally introduced, then he always greeted the UPS truck with a smile.
I saw a Guide Dog being trained In San Rafael CA,,,,who later became world famous for bring his owner down many dozens of flights of stairs and safely out of The World Trade Center in 2001 . They are truly remarkable.
If obama had dog for dinner it would look like oh never mind
i love all labs.
Yes! Good Dog, Good Dog!
Who’s a good boy?!
Dogs know stuff.
I don’t know how dogs know stuff, but they do.
And it isn’t just small stuff like, “where’s my supper bowl,” they know BIG stuff, like a wackadoodle behind the wheel of a car stuff.
And that’s good stuff to know.
It makes perfect sense that the muslim culture would be repulsed by these good and gentle beasts.
In the Lassie tradition, this dog is a hero.
(Lassie was a scripted performer, this dog is the real deal!)
