“Men lose interest in fashion trends and being ‘cool’ at the age of 46, a new survey has revealed.”
Losing interest in fashion trends is very different than “giving up on your appearance.” I count it as wisdom. By and large, fashion trends are stupid.
It’s called going to seed.
In 52 years the only fashion trends that snared me were bell bottom jeans and platform disco shoes.
After that I gave “fashion” the deep six.
I still have my Hollywood good looks.
Thank God for Estee Lauder!!!!
Bahh!
I’m 60 and I still have the body of a god.
(So what if it’s Buddha...)
They obviously haven’t surveyed my husband. He cares more now in the mid-50s than he did ten/twenty years ago. He lost almost 100 pounds, or wants to lose that much. He was aching so much and had other health issues from being overweight so he worked and dieted it off. Now he’s fitting into clothes he wore many years ago, wants to get down to high school weight. (he will look ill, but he’s not listening to what people are saying)
Me, OTOH, I care, but mid-life shifted my weight and although I’m fitting into smaller clothes the weight shift ticks me off and I *almost* don’t give a hoot.
I tend to agree.
At my high school reunion the vast majority of the women looked pretty good. A majority of the males were fat, disgusting slobs.
BAH HUMBUG...
I resemble er resent that remark.
At 73 I still wear off the rack 33/33 same as when I was 50 and same as when I was 25.
Only difference is the same size leg length seems to have gotten longer and as far as the waist is concerned, I know there is a 33 down there someplace.......
At 46 I figured it was time to go to pot a bit just to give the younger guys a fair shot at the babes.
I’m rolling up on 50, and I find that by working out regularly, pretty much anything I wear looks fine. I can still remember my mother taking me shopping as a boy “we’ll get you some Chinos and some Oxford shirts. They’ll never go out of style.” Works for me.
I disagree with a generalization here. A lot of women get even more focused on their appearance after age 60, right into their 80s. Crones don’t get to make a second impression!
Spend a career in the military and you give up on worrying about your appearance in civvies even sooner. Fashion trends are meaningless. Groomed and neatly dressed, regardless is always the better route.
I coached high school baseball for three seasons and found the kids mostly wore what I’ve been wearing all my life: Long and short sleeve t-shirts, jeans or cargo shorts and sneakers. What’s the big deal?
I stopped caring about being fashionable around the age of 30. I guess I’m ahead of the curve...
Not my husband!
I’m sitting here chortling in my tighty whitey’s at 10am. No shirt and flip flops. Oops, I think I just leaked in my diaper. Guess I don’t pass the test.
And some of us never gave a sh*t about current fashion in the first place.
Woo Hoo! Only a year-and-a-half to go!
