Men lose interest in fashion trends and being 'cool' at the age of 46, a new survey has revealed.
But women put the effort in for a full 13 years longer - focusing on their appearance and general fitness until at least age 59.
The research also found women were nearly twice as likely to lack confidence in their image, with more than one third unable to claim they were at least content with their appearance.
It also emerged one third of the 2,000 men and women who took part in the study blamed a lack of happiness in contributing to their low confidence levels in the way they look.
More than half of those surveyed said they aren't in great shape physically while a third admit they have never been the type to bother with doing exercise.
Another third stop caring about the food they eat and how much alcohol they drink.

you got that right...
I shop at Kohls and Target for clothes. I don't drive anything special, it has four wheels and goes reliably, that's all I ask. I can't begin to tell you even one of the top 10 bands on the radio today. I don't own a smart phone, IPhone, IPad, Ipod, or Xbox.
As for fitness, I generally watch what I eat, and walk at lunch - that's how I get "personal time" at work. No expensive gym memberships (with accompanying late evenings/early mornings) or fad diets for me. Could I stand to lose a few more pounds? Sure, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
My time and money gets spent on things that are important. Like the family camping trip that's coming up. Or our Beach Trip this fall. Or Family time at T'giving. And so on. Like tonite, Mrs WBill has plans, so WBill Jr. and I are going out for hot dogs and ice cream (his choice, though I like them too :-) ), then we might play with his HotWheels cars. I can't wait.
It's all about having the sense to know what's important. And...what this article tells me is that it takes "average" men 46 years to figure it out, and "average" women 59 years.
Or a health care professional whom I saw yesterday. While doing some paperwork she said how old are you and when I told her 68 she flipped out....said I would have guessed about 48 or so. I said it is all stage scenery!!
got that right.
Today we see underwear hanging out, pajamas being worn when out shopping and roles of fat hanging out because they wear those tight spandex.
I;’ve not reached 46 yet but if looking like a tramp and looking lazy by wearing pajamas is the fashion then I;ve give up on fashion.
At Cracker barrel yesterday a kid came in for a job. he wore dirty sneakers, baggy jeans and a shirt hanging out while not being clean shaven.
How the hell do they think they will get a job, even my kids my oldest at 15 wear a tie, pants and shirt tucked in when he went for a job
I tend to agree.
At my high school reunion the vast majority of the women looked pretty good. A majority of the males were fat, disgusting slobs.
Call me old fashioned, I always have on jeans/slacks and closed toes shoes, even mid-day in Texas. A throw back to when I ranch worked outside daylight to dark.
BAH HUMBUG...
I resemble er resent that remark.
At 73 I still wear off the rack 33/33 same as when I was 50 and same as when I was 25.
Only difference is the same size leg length seems to have gotten longer and as far as the waist is concerned, I know there is a 33 down there someplace.......
She;s Chinese?
LOL, remember those days ! I remember when I was told to put on all sorts of fancy clothes and then when I go and goof off, get chewed out for ruining them when playing.
Kind of funny, when I moved to Colorado, it was a relief, there, nobody didn’t care. Even at the workplace, you didn’t have to dress up. Everyone liked it but then the executives on the East Coast had different thoughts. They sent a memo that there was a strict dress code - long sleeve shirt, dress slacks, formal dress shoes and no casual Friday and even had to dress up if you had to go in on weekends as well !
> I remember when people used to dress up to go shopping. Nowadays they wear pajamas and house slippers to the store..............
lol
doesn’t even look like the same person, does it?
Naaaahhhhh, she just gives technology to the Chinese...
Hey ... I like my bunny slippers
It’s not the shorts, it’s what sticks out below them.
At 46 I figured it was time to go to pot a bit just to give the younger guys a fair shot at the babes.
Nah, shorts are ok. Just don't draw those lines on your legs with a blue magic marker.
Looks just like his Dad now.
I applaud you for trying...lol
I’m rolling up on 50, and I find that by working out regularly, pretty much anything I wear looks fine. I can still remember my mother taking me shopping as a boy “we’ll get you some Chinos and some Oxford shirts. They’ll never go out of style.” Works for me.
I disagree with a generalization here. A lot of women get even more focused on their appearance after age 60, right into their 80s. Crones don’t get to make a second impression!
