The ubiquitous coffee chain announced this week that it's asking patrons to stop bringing guns into its stores -- regardless of local gun laws. If you can't bring your gun to Starbucks, will you still bring your business there?
Yes, this is a reasonable request that aims to ensure the safety of employees and customers.
No, even though it's not an official mandate, the concept tramples all over the Second Amendment.

Why would you want to go to Starbucks? The only ones there will be the criminals with the illegal guns Sounds unsafe to me.
I open carry into WaWa and their dark roast is mighty fine.
If the guy didn’t want me to carry in his store, I’d just go somewhere else. I’d respect his private property rights the way I’d expect him to respect mine.
My espresso and coffe is just as strong, just not burnt beans used in the making. And yes, there is an oil sheen on top of the ice cubes and the trays can’t be used for anything else that doesn’t want to taste or smell like coffee.
The thing that isn’t getting mentioned at all in this debate, and wasn’t covered by Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz when he was interviewed on FOX, is the not-so-subtle implication than those who legally carry are not to be trusted.
Nothing could be further from the truth. I want to be surrounded by those with CCW permits when the SHTF.
Haven’t patronized Starbucks for years, now. When a company publically inserts itself in politics, it will piss off at least half of the country, and kiss off half or its customers. So be it.
Me too. I had one cup of that crap and never went back ——
30 years ago!
If you look at patrons and not people who already have a criminal intent (robbers, domestic disputes with employees, etc.) I wonder just how many gun problems they have had. My guess is the number of accidental discharges, threats, or altercations involving a gun is zero.
Left the area 20 years ago. One of the absolute negatives of leaving Philly, all of which can be counted on one hand with a few missing fingers.
Like you said, if you are legally carrying concealed, they’ll never know. I can’t blame them for not wanting their business to be used as a venue to promote or disparage any political point of view. They’re in business to sell coffee and make money.
Starbucks only began nationally in about 1993 or 1994.
Why is it a hate crime to prohibit homosexuals from a bakery in Seattle but not a hate crime to prohibit legal gun owners from Starbucks? Isn’t there an equal protection under the law clause somewhere?
Time for Chik-Filet to start serving the core product line of Starbucks.
Interesting question, but from what’ve heard, this is only a request and not a prohibition.
Still at 55/45.
Quite. And as such, not a 2nd amendment. Foolish, perhaps, but it's his place. I don't see the problem. I don't have to acquiesce to his request. It's not even an outright ban which, depending on the place, I may or may not obey anyway.
Seems to me this really taking the long way to find something to be outraged about. There's way better things to rage about than some non-existent policy at a coffee shop.
Yes, this is a stupid dangerous requirement of a gun free zone and I’m a stupid dummy who thinks guns are nasty things and gun control is yummy and I like a little danger, like wearing mismatched socks and other risque fun behavior.
No this is an unreasonable request that aims to ensure the lack of safety of employees and customers and even though it’s not an official mandate, the concept tramples all over the Second Amendment.
Best BLT (double bacon) in Southeast VA! I know they are PA based but they have spread out. Coming soon to an area near you!?
The policy isn't disarming me; I simply won't go there. And, if I read this correctly, I won't be disarmed even if I *do* go there.
What’s Starbucks? That place that smells like old, burned coffee grounds?
I make better coffee at home and besides, it doesn’t cost $4.00/cup.
Yes 55%
No 45%
