FULL TITLE: REVEALED: Gunman, 34, who murdered TWELVE and injured 15 in Washington Navy Yard rampage was decorated petty officer who left military in 2011 after previous gun charge
While the motive of Aaron Alexis, the heavily armed gunman who shot dead at least 12 people in cold blood this morning at the Washington Navy Yard has not been revealed, speculation is growing his dismissal from the U.S. Navy for 'misconduct' in January 2011 may have inspired him to commit a deadly revenge.
Alexis, 34, has been revealed to have a prior arrest for letting a gun off that could have harmed his neighbor while he cleaned his own weapon at home in Fort Worth, Texas, 2010.
Despite the lack of acknowledged motive, one U.S. official has been quoted as saying Alexis was kicked out of the Navy in 2011 for 'misconduct' as a direct result of his gun arrest three years ago.
Law enforcement said that Alexis' identity was confirmed by fingerprints and that he served in the U.S. Navy between May 5th, 2007 and January 31st, 2011, the date he was dismissed from the service.
He was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal prior to his discharge in January 2011.
A U.S. Navy spokesman said that Alexis was an 'aviation electrician's mate' - ranked as a third class petty officer and served at the Naval Air Station in Fort Worth, Texas.

“All Marines are trained Marksmen (min), do they at least train all sailors to patch holes in leaking bulkheads?”
They have to as not all Marines are real marksmen. :)
Yeah. I ain’t buying what they are trying to sell
Agreed.
They have big old party’s at the Buddhist temple all the time.
Going there and getting liquored up does not make one a Buddihst.
Aviation Electronics is AT. Aviation Electrician is AE.
When I was in you had to be an E-3 for a minimum of one year before you could take the petty officer exam. Plus you had to have 2 years remaining to sew on the crow if you passed. I cross rated from AEAN to CECN and had to start counting time all over. My score on the CE3 exam was PNA, passed but not advanced, because I had less than two years left on my enlistment.
E-4 out of BOOTCAMP! They still recruit ‘Pushbuttons’? That’s what we used to call ‘em :)
Understand your comment, and thankful that “cleanup” is not my detail. Do worry though that we even have people who would know how to do that without, pardon the pun, blowing their cover. Kudos.
Proud to be a push button and hitting the fleet hard.
My mistake, they do not have planes on submarines.
Funny thing too, you can cut a deal to be an officer if you qualify.
No disrespect intended.
A couple of guys in my shop did it but they were A school grads. When I was in {76-80} they liked to use E-5 as a re-up carrot. Chief offered me E-5 and $15K to try & get me to stick around. LOL
E-5 is the best rank to have in the Navy really as far as what is required of the rank. You're not doing the trivial dirty work, usually not sent to mess cooking etc unless as a supervisor, and in most cases they don't have the headaches most First Class and Chief's deal with on bigger ships.
so a malcontent went to Thailand, a acknowledged growing cesspool of islamic domination because he wanted to know more about Buddha? Then, after visiting said violent cesspool to study non-violence and learn about a fat Chinese guy, he decided to perform a cold, calculated violent act more closely representative of the violent islamic death cult.
Occam’s razor man, Occam’s razor.
This guy sounds like the guy that killed a bunch of people out in Cali last spring.
The pattern I see with this guy is he was overly helpful for no compensation.
Something snapped
Something is really weird with the wife of the owner of Happy Bowl.
Why would you make him the best man at your wedding when he works in your store and you do not even pay him?
Weird
I was an E-5 on subs...We got screwed.... we did all the work cause we were the only ones experienced enough or qualified to do it ;)
Every marine is a rifleman.
If it weren’t for the COB and E5’s nothing would get done ;)
