But the most significant news to come out of the event is a new security feature on the iPhone 5S called Touch ID, which is an app that allows users to use their fingerprint to access information in their phone.
The new function is essentially a fingerprint identity sensor in the home button on the phone that enables users to unlock their device. However, it can also be used as a substitute for passwords when making purchases, including in Apple's iTunes Store.
"Your fingerprint is one of the best passwords in the world. It's always with you," said Dan Riccio, Apple's senior vice president of hardware, at the event.
Apple broke tradition and rolled out two new colorful iPhones models, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C, at its Cupertino event on Tuesday.
As expected the iPhone 5C, which features a plastic casing and starts at a subsidized price of $99, is cheaper than the iPhone 5S, which starts at $199. The iPhone 5C comes in multiple bright colors including green, pink, yellow and blue, while the iPhone 5S comes in gray, silver and gold.

Unless you have black leather seats and interior in your car...
What happens when you get a cut on your finger, or have on a band-aid? That CHANGES your fingerprint! You might be locked out of your own phone. And in an emergency, no on else could use it, either.
I was hoping for a bigger screen. If I don’t have my glasses on, I can use my 5 inch phone, I can’t do anything on my wife’s iphone.
I'm thinking about getting the next version. I need it for my on-line businesses, but I also love the "phablet" size. Tablets are too big, and phones are a tad too small.
My work switched to finger print scanners about a decade ago, they worked great! If you had a problem using the scanner, you could still enter your ID and password. I loved it.
About a year later they came through and removed all the scanners with out ever telling us why. I still miss them, I have to enter my password about 30 times a day.
Yep. Means I only have to carry the one.
Exactly.
gays and girls will buy the new gumdrop iphones.
You are talking about a 3 year old phone that had a small battery. There are much better android phones out there , I know, I had a Evo, hardly representative of the modern droid experience..heck when Evo came out it used Android 2.2, Android is up to 4.2 now..soon to be 4.3.
30 posts in this thread and about 5 of them are actually on topic.
Smh.
I'd be really surprised if it wouldn't allow anyone to dail 911 with the phone, regardless of fingerprint.
If the NSA didn't already have a copy of my fingerprints, I'd be concerned about the phone shipping it to them.
Me too. The iPhone 4 retina display was slowly killing my eyes. Last fall I saw all the kids riding the MRT in Singapore with their noses buried in huge, beautiful Galaxy Note II screens and said, "That's enough!" :)
Oh boy! Colored iPhones. I’m sure Jobs would have been thrilled with such innovation.
Have a Driving License?
Have a Passport?
Ever been in the Military?
Ever had a background check
To buy a handgun?
Get real they likely already have your prints.
You can program multiple fingers . . .
easy to bypass with gummy bears.
fingerprint tech is soooo 20th century.
apple is getting desperate if they think this is high tech.
>> “apple is getting desperate if they think this is high tech.” <<
.
This is real Mark-of-the-Beast tech: “in the forehead or the right hand...”
Apple wouldn’t want to impede the Beast!
iOS 7 is what I’m waiting for.
