Republicans are using their weekly radio and Internet address to focus on health insurance costs under President Barack Obamas health overhaul.
GOP Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, who was an orthopedic surgeon before coming to Congress, says many families are going to have real sticker shock when they see their new insurance rates.

What else should the government force us to buy because you feel it is needed?
Thanks for the heads-up. Now DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT and DEFUND IT!
Progressivism is a religion, more dogmatic than any religion. Yet they're freethinkers.
What else should the government force us to buy because you feel it is needed?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Huh? I’ve never advocated that the government force us to buy anything. Oh... I see. You think the government should force us to buy something and you’re asking me for recommendations! Sorry. Not my thing.
Do you deny that Obamacare forces people to buy health insurance?
Do you deny that Obamacare forces people to buy health insurance?
Of course people are not forced to buy health insurance.
Folks may either buy health insurance or they may pay a fine. If they’re ok with paying the fine, then no, they don’t have to buy health insurance. A lot of people will be making that decision.
I just find it so funny that before all this Obamacare stuff arose, any responsible conservative would have advised folks to buy health insurance. Now that Obamacare has passed, all of a sudden health insurance is a great evil. Sorry. I’ve always owned health insurance and I always will. If Obamacare were repealed tomorrow, I would still buy health insurance and I would still recommend it to folks wanting to be responsible adults.
So, your choice. Buy insurance or pay a small fine. Again, I don’t care what you do. I choose to be responsible for my own health and wealth like my conservative parents raised me to be.
That answer is bullcrap and you know it.
The fine is the “force” used to make people buy insurance. It’s like saying that no one forces you to pay taxes: you can either pay taxes or go to jail, the choice is up to you.
You are an unpersuasive shill of the administration forcing people to make choices just because you feel it is needed.
Gee, hyperbole much?
If you don’t pay your income taxes, the government will garnish your wages, take money from your savings account, whatever. But you WILL pay your income taxes. And, depending on your actions, you very well may go to prison. That is force.
Don’t buy health insurance? The government will not take your money and pay it to an insurance company and force you to have insurance. Yes, Obamacare fines you for not having insurance. But it in no way forces health insurance on you.
No where have I said that I agree with what the administration has done. No where do I say that people should be forced to buy health insurance.
Just curious - do you have health insurance? If you have children, did you have health insurance for them when they were growing up? When you (or your wife) had your children, did you pay the bills directly, for did you have health insurance to help with the cost?
You did say people should be forced to buy health insurance.
That is the whole point of Obamacare. It forces people to buy health insurance.
Health insurance isn’t bad. Health insurance is a good idea.
NOBODY is arguing about that.
It is that the government SHOULD NOT FORCE ANYONE TO BUY SOMETHING.
What if the government decided that having a water filter was needed for your house and if you didn’t buy one that met their standards they would fine you? Would you support that?
What about if the government decided that you needed to eat three servings of vegetables a day and if you didn’t they would fine you? Would you support that?
Health insurance rates are climbing through the roof because the government has said that everyone has to have it and the standards are set by the government.
You are either willfully ignorant or a shill trying to convince people that a government forcing people to buy a product is not the definition of tyranny.
Liberals lost this in the 40’s under wage and price control.
Employers answer was health benefits. Libs attacking employers is a constant theme. Just watch it.
Anybody stupid enough to enslave themselves under the Fed deserves a life of nothing.
You did say people should be forced to buy health insurance.
Where???
The replies to this article are all within one page so you can easily go back and read everything I’ve written. I’ve said that people need health insurance. I’ve said that financially responsible people buy insurance. But I have NEVER said that anyone should be forced to buy health insurance. If you think I have stated that, please point out exactly what I said which led you to that conclusion.
Obamacare forces people to buy health insurance.
You do not want Obamacare defunded.
Ergo, you want to force people to buy health insurance.
Not only have you completely missed my point, but you've perfectly illustrated the problem Republicans are going to have trying to repeal Obamacare.
Liberals want everyone to believe that Obamacare is the panacea to the health care problems in the United States.
Conservatives, on the other hand, want everyone to believe that Obamacare is evil and must be wiped off the face of the earth.
My point was that, like many complex bills, Obamacare contains a mix of features. Unfortunately for the Republicans trying to repeal Obamacare, not every individual feature is evil. And for many citizens, whether they are liberals or conservatives, they may find features which will provide significant savings for them without any downside for them personally. I'm in that group where, personally, Obamacare seems to provide significant savings to me while not forcing me to do anything I wouldn't do anyway. So, personally, do I want the whole bill repealed? That would not be in my financial interest.
A case can be made that the individual mandate so taints the bill that that is cause in itself for the bill to be repealed. I'm being pragmatic. Right now it appears the Obamacare will save my family $10,000/year. A lot of conservative families will be performing the same math and coming to a similar result.
So no, for me the bill is not 100% evil. For many conservatives, they will also decide that Obamacare is not 100% evil. That is why I say the Conservatives will more likely be successful by trying to join with at least some Democrats to modify Obamacare than they will be in their efforts to repeal it.
And if you want to continue with your view that Obamacare is evil, evil, evil, well, go right ahead. I'm done with this discussion.
