If they do that, I predict it'll be the biggest shot in the arm ever for Linux, and it'll be a cold day in the realm of double hockey sticks before I let Billy Gates grab me by my data.

All your personal documents in the cloud, what could possibly go wrong?

Stability is one of the hallmarks of UNIX/Linux/BSD/OSX.

Microsoft wouldn't be dumb enough to cede that territory.

Would they?

Gee an operating system that starts off in the dirt and digs deeper.
Bye-bye Microsoft.

It doesn’t say anything about getting hold of your data. They are talking about Windows specifically.

Furthermore Bill Gates hasn’t been at the helm of Microsoft for several years now.

Sounds like it may be time to get up to speed on Linux.

This version of Windows could also be the last version of Windows as we know it.

Nope. Win7 was the last version of Windows as we know it.

It isn't obvious to anyone living in a wired-all-the-time city, but we rural dwellers know the hazards of overdependence on infrastructure. First your data, then your apps, and now your OS all depend on infrastructure. And infrastructure is vulnerable.

When my workplace decided to outsource email to The Cloud there was one individual who pointed out that while we were hosting it ourselves, we could communicate perfectly well locally if the Internet feed went down. If it goes down now the email goes dark. The guy pointing it out was our former networking team leader.

The big gainer from all this? Linux.

That's the final nail for me.
It's been coming for a long time now.
But they love the jack boots more than my business.

I’ve used microsofts hosted solution for my company’s CRM. It worked ok but of course required internet access to see my data.

What wasn’t ok was their billing practices. Four months in a row they billed me 10 times what I owed. Kind of a shock to suddenly be $2,500 short in the account. By the 4th month they got it down to only taking 10 days to return my money.

They didn’t see the issue since they always corrected it, even if it took up to two months. Yes they said that.

When you decide the cancel you will end up paying, even if you are at the end of the term. Cancel early and you pay significant fees. Oh and they take the payment but won’t even tell you how much you owe.

So now they want me to give them this control over my PC? Time for linux.

Yea, the six hours I spend on airlines every week - disconnected from the internet - don’t have to be productive. They can instead be wasted time.

That’s pretty much all Micoscam is these days anyway - wasted time.

Microsoft Windows 10 might become a cloud based operating system (OS) according to a leaked road-map.

As long as that means some BS like integrating support for Azure - fine, who cares. If it involves something ridiculous like moving major OS services off the client, goodbye Windows - but I can't imagine them doing something that idiotic and arrogant.

You know, I’m really happy with Win 7. I don’t like Win 8 and I’m not sure I’ll like Win 9 or 10 either.

More like a win for Apple, I’m afraid. Linux never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Following Google. (ChromeOS.)

By the time Windows 10 comes out floating on a cloud, the whole cloud hoopla fashion might be passe like nose earrings.
