Johnny Football will start the season on the bench.

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel of No. 7 Texas A&M has been suspended for the first half of Saturday's season opener against the Rice Owls, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Wednesday afternoon.

An agreement has been reached between the NCAA and Texas A&M that a source told McMurphy closes the book on Manziel's recent issues. The NCAA had been investigating whether Manziel was paid for autographs, a potential violation of amateurism rules that could threaten his eligibility.

Sorry but you’re wrong. If ESPN made the rules this rule WOULDN’T exist. Everybody at ESPN has complained about this rule for years, they complained about it all the way through the Ohio situation last year. The NCAA wasn’t gun shy about this exact same rule last year. I think it’s the fact that Daddy Manziel can sue the hell out of them that makes them scared this time. Everybody knows this rule is dumb and couldn’t possibly stand up in court if challenged.

The NCAA is a wilting power, but not because of ESPN. Because the folks their in charge of are sick of having their championships vacated 3 years later.

When I see investigations and punishments like this, it bolsters my confidence in the fact that:
A) PSU Administration (President Erickson, BOT Surma, etc.) WROTE their own sanctions
B) Commissioned freeh to write a report with a pre-determined outcoome

Erickson is going to wind up in a cell next to js. You heard it here first.

4500 violations = 30 minutes

0 violations + 4500 unsubstantiated accusations = 30 minutes

Fixed it. :)

Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel of No. 7 Texas A&M has been suspended for the first half of Saturday’s season opener against the Rice Owls, A&M and the NCAA announced Wednesday in a joint statement.
The NCAA and A&M agreed on the one-half suspension because Manziel violated NCAA bylaw 12.5.2.1, an NCAA representative confirmed. The rule says student-athletes cannot permit their names or likenesses to be used for commercial purposes, including to advertise, recommend or promote sales of commercial products, or accept payment for the use of their names or likenesses.

“If additional information comes to light, the NCAA will review and consider if further action is appropriate,” the NCAA said in the joint statement. “NCAA rules are clear that student-athletes may not accept money for items they sign, and based on information provided by Manziel, that did not happen in this case.”The statement said there was no evidence that Manziel received payment for signing autographs.

Not too specific about what he actually did to get suspended.

The suspension was not for selling autographs, a charge for which they found no evidence.

But he apparently somehow was deemed to have “allowed” his name to be used somehow to make money, and thus the half-game suspension.

Sure he didn’t. Out of the goodness of his drunken heart he signed 4,500 items and didn’t get a penny. Sure.

So many people just don’t get that. He’s not the first, if he did and certainly won’t be the last.

Another reason to root against the Aggie cult.

I will enjoy cheering against him in the NFL as much as I enjoy rooting for which ever team plays the Aggies.

Just being able to put “Four Year Scholarship Football Player” on the resume opens doors that stay shut for most other people.

This is a joke, right?
