Johnny Football will start the season on the bench.
Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel of No. 7 Texas A&M has been suspended for the first half of Saturday's season opener against the Rice Owls, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Wednesday afternoon.
An agreement has been reached between the NCAA and Texas A&M that a source told McMurphy closes the book on Manziel's recent issues. The NCAA had been investigating whether Manziel was paid for autographs, a potential violation of amateurism rules that could threaten his eligibility.

“I thought he get double secret probation.”
Well, how do you know he didn’t?
It will be a short career. They hit 10x harder in the nfl than they do in the sec.
Are you like me? When I saw the headline, I thought the article was going to read half the Season.
I concur. The NCAA exploits these young men and makes billions. The players: ZIP. This is fundamentally wrong.
College Students/Players have the right to make a living.
I'm betting the punishment goes to what the NCAA is able to prove. Which is squat.
When the NCAA loses the O’bannon lawsuit, and they will, times are going to change. (he is suing because the NCAA made money off his image without payment http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20130401/pat-haden-ed-obannon-ncaa/)
Poor widdle Johhny.
I really would like to see the guy succeed. But he’s an immature rich spolied jerk. He comes from a rich (and crooked) family and he just needs to get some sense knocked into him.
And grow up.
“Would they just pay the players, please? Man, do they get ripped off.”
Realistically, they are professional athletes. However, since there is still this facade of being a “student athlete,” I will take the contrary view. My position is that being a collegiate athlete in one of the major revenue sports (Football, men’s basketball) is it’s own reward. I don’t pretend that they are “getting an education for free.” Sure, the smart ones do. My point is that any of these players with half a brain should never want for a decent job when they leave school. Just being able to put “Four Year Scholarship Football Player” on the resume opens doors that stay shut for most other people.
Why pay them for four years, when they should be able to milk it for 40? That’s what college is all about, right?
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.
On September 14, any remaining thoughts (if there are any out there) of Johnny Manziel winning a 2nd Heisman will be dead in the dust of Kyle Field as the Alabama Crimson Tide are taking their aftergame showers and preparing to return to beautiful Tuscaloosa. :)
ROLL TIDE!!!
I certainly did read that wrong.
I like the NBCSports.com headline for it's clarity:
Manziel suspended for 30 Minutes
AJ Green of Georgia got suspended I think four games for selling a bowl game jersey and this guy gets 1/2 of one game for selling over 4,500 items. Smells to me.
So...wait...what?
He got suspended for half of a game? HALF of ONE game? I’ve never heard of such a thing.
Way to make sure the punishment is deterrent, guys! What’s next? Will the next kid in a similar situation be suspended for the first quarter? first series? Opening ceremonies?
LOL! That is exactly what I thought and what I expected.
This isn’t even a slap on the wrist........ it is a mean look! :)
Not true, Responsibility2nd. His father lives in College Station. Johnny just said yesterday that he has more records to break before going pro...I think we will have him through his junior year. Lots of rumors are bounding about...but most are just that, rumors. I live here, know coaches...
I really hope this kid pulls it together. He has a bright future if he doesn’t let the stardom blind his eyes.
free college and room and board and an easy case load is but a dream for most working class kids....
if they want to get paid let them set up an NFL like system for the 18-21 yr olds....
athletes are already blessed with physical gifts....they should appreciate that and that alone, besides getting free education...
The ncaa also awarded A&M 2 of Penn State’s remaining scholarships.
I still regret having professional in the Olympics....
Too bad that is in the middle of elk season so...
