I see a lot of really nice armoires on craigslist.org all the time that could easily be turned into a kitchen pantry by adding a few shelves.
Last year I picked up a solid maple one from the 1940’s for 50.00 and refinished it as a sewing cabinet. It now looks like came straight out of Pottery Barn catalog.
As millions of people have bought flat-panel TVs, the old armoires that used to hold big TV sets now are being discarded. When visiting Goodwill, the Salvation Army, or the Habitat for Humanity Restore, I see a lot of very large and handsome armoires made of well-finished solid wood with double doors on top and another set of doors on the bottom. The ones on the bottom usually conceal shelves. The upper portion is large enough for additional shelves to be added, and strong and deep enough even to hold your microwave. Putting a few extra shelves in is quite easy. You can also find kits at Lowe’s or Home Depot that maximize kitchen space and could be added easily with just a screwdriver and a drill—towel racks, pot racks, inner drawers, etc.

I too am married to a Filipina. In my case, it was more of a necessity than to just display the food items - our house in Manila did not have any cabinets to store food, so everything was stacked on the counter. There is also a cultural aspect of wishing to “display” the food as somewhat of a status symbol (as explained by my wife).
I thought as much...thanks for replying...Filipinas are incredible wives but they do have their ways....Love’em just the same.....Have you noticed that filipinas brag when they shoudln’t...totally cultural....kind of comical.

I kept in touch every day when I was there, 6 months ago. I was on FR every day. They have good DSL service in Davao City. As far as the ladies go, that was a good excuse to get the sweetest one I could find, so there is less temptation. I met lots of ex pats, from Europe, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and a ton of Americans. It is a law and order city. Your wife probably knows who the mayor is. He recognizes a cash cow, and they go out of their way to protect the tourists and ex pats, who bring in lots of money. If these people get out of line, they sometimes end up in the river, so it is a good place to be. I have been all over the Philippines, but I thought the people of Davao City were special. See you there :-)

To your original question, I bought a 36” x 6’ storage cabinet from Home Depot for about $150. It has worked well as a pantry for us.
My parents were from the old country...whenever I get anxious, I buy extra food.
Frosted glass might be a nice compromise. For a less cluttered look.

I would start the project by doing a Google image search for “kitchen pantry cabinet”. There are all sorts of designs and useful gimmicks that you may decide to integrate into a rough sketch, with dimensions, of what you want.
And truthfully, you will almost always be more satisfied with a custom job, using quality materials.
My own suggestions may seem odd, but make a lot of sense. First of all, assuming the cabinet is recessed into a wall, it might be a very good idea that the outer walls of the pantry are insulated. Thus your pantry will be room temperature, summer and winter.
Second, if you have lots of insects, you might consider having small valves on the top of the pantry through which you can spray insecticide every few years. Having to remove your pantry to spray for ants is a nuisance.
Other than shelf drawers, you might have a wine rack, lazy susans, various space saving square sealed bins for grains, pasta, etc. And be sure to line your shelves with shelf paper.

Just go to Lowe’s and look in there cabinet dept. Tell the salesman what you want. They have many qualities to chose from and they come pre-finished. Delivered to your door in about 3 or 4 weeks. You install or pay them to install.
