The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Anxious to hear what you’ve found out! Our cantaloupes aren’t doing well either.
Are those the same as the crazy ants with which we have contended? Diatomaceous earth (food grade) and those little ant bait traps have controlled them fairly well but not completely so far.
Hope that you are blessed with a good yield!
There are still some patches of ice on the peaks very near here, too, by the way. And hey, greeneyes, I moved to Mars here (one of the most brutal climate spots on the Rockies) from Muhzeruh (the way the old folks said it—kinda like that other state: Huwoyuh) a long time ago. :-)
Holycow! I bet that was your post before I got to the signature line lol! You actually planted the trombocinos this season? I thought you’d wait until next year. Power to the FReeper gardeners!

Lol! I, too, am married to a tool troll. I also bought a set of pink tools and, darn it, he uses them because he can’t find the hundred gazillion tools he owns! Maybe I should look for purple tools! BTW, so far all the tools are still in the pink-trimmed case.
That is a really good attitude. We may canonize you!

I was about ready to pull up my tomato plants because the leaves had a white powdery substance on them and were dying. Someone on the gardening thread suggested a solution of bleach and water to spray on the leaves. I tried it and for a few weeks it was touch and go but now my plants are flourishing. Sorry I don’t remember the poster’s name but I really appreciated the help. Thanks.
No these are red and black, and kinda big.
Oh, drat. This thread has provided so much knowledge to me that I had hoped I could give a little back!
*Snorkle chortle* I’m sure it takes an incredibly superior intellect to blow one past you!
Are you growing the tobacco seeds for barter?
“I also bought a set of pink tools...”
That’s what I did - bought a pink set of tools thinking he wouldn’t dare touch pink.
Yes, I planted that “T” Italian squash in a 14 inch diameter barrel. Rightly made a dolly for it so I can regulate the sun it gets, just roll it where I want it. I have a long growing season here, sometimes until December, so decided to see if the squash would do its thing.
I have put the grow light and stand together, all finished. The only problem I had was the puppy running off with the instructions every time I set them down. She likes paper - in little bitty pieces.
The unit is sitting on the floor against a wall. It’s out of the way there. I put down a sun shade thing that goes in a car windshield so if any water came out of anything it would be on that and not get on floor.
Next thing is to figure out how to keep puppy from eating the dirt in the paper cups or eating the plants when they come up. May have to barbecue the Yorkie - I’ll think of a way to keep her away from there.
It’s amazing what one can find in soil, is it not?
Maybe next year I will just plant melons in pots with trellis or something. I just have shocking bad luck with them.
I have been so busy lately, I haven’t hardly visited the garden in days. I really got to get a few things done tomorrow before I leave for Chicago on Sunday.
LOL. Well now that there makes me feel like the thread is popular and useful-a good feeling. LOL
Only after there is enough for me to smoke if the shtf. Johnny and I know what is important - cigarettes and alcohol. He can make beer along with his tobacco. I don't know how to make alcohol. I need to make Amaretto and Bailey's or Michael's Irish Crème.
