Beats me.

My ol’ man’s been dressing himself since he was a kid.

Who am I to interfere?

[unless he starts wearing metrosexual stuff, anyway]

My mom used to dress my dad.

He looked miserable.

[and silly]

Weird vanity but, I let no one pick my clothes.

I don’t go shopping for what I want with others, as they tend to attempt putting me in attired I am not comfortable with or is completely out of my personally disorder.

I have never been comfortable with others choices, particularly because they tend to turn into demands.

Skin that.

Don’t mind a bit of jest and fun in getting me to try something but, Usually they are attempting to change me in their craven image or control me.

My wife started doing it when we were both 14, but I was living with her family at the time. And it was a good thing too - I sometimes think I joined the Navy partly because uniforms make things easier :)

A girlfriend or wife wants to see her man look “respectable” because she does not want to be seen going out with a guy who looks like he just woke up, off the floor with a hangover.

Guys couldn't care less how they dress as long as they are not a Metro sexual beings. No matter how many times a woman, good looking or not, tries to dress the male, the male can always say, NO.

Women do have a sense of taste over and above men but the man can always refuse to look like a Barbi-Ken look alike duo.

It's up to the guy in the end to assert his “right” to look as he sees fit but...he risks losing the babe, maybe.

I feel the need to stress that we weren’t married when we were 14 - that happened about twelve years later.

lead around like a puppy on a short, tight leash by the attractive woman who accompanied him.

You just answered your own question.

This is a clear case of category error. You are trying to find a solution to the wrong problem. The correct question si...

“What is that woman doing in a clothing store instead of a kitchen?”

Now if it was a grocery store, well, that’s one thing but....

;)

In my location, dressing means nothing. I spend most of my day with nothing but shorts. When I bicycle to the market I put on a polo shirt. If needed, I do have a closet full of fine dress, but have not touched any in the last four years.

Some men with vision problems such as color blindness need the assistance you describe. Other men have careers in the community such as lawyers, politicians, salesmen where they need to always be projecting an image in case they bump into past, current or future clients.

I have been married for 37 years. I still do not pick out hubby’s clothes. I have, on occasion, given him a shirt or sweater, but for the most part, he chooses.

Probably after the first holiday. I forget now if it was Christmas, Valentines, or his Bday. It wasn’t because I “disapproved” of his choice in clothes, but more that I love clothes in general & he’s so easy to shop for. (I’m top heavy & thin hipped, so it’s a hassle for me to shop. Other than being tall, he can wear anything.) His Highness *can* shop for himself, but now he’s gotten lazy.

If you’re looking for some beautiful stuff- especially shirts, check out Territory Ahead. Steinmart usually has a really good men’s department, too.

Do not take this for an unqualified endorsement, but as something which has some very interesting thoughts:

I live in the deep south. 9 months out of the year I have the same uniform. A t-shirt and gym shorts. If I must go somewhere , I transition my wardrobe to cargo shorts, a polo shirt of some sort and sperry’s with no socks. OTOH, I sometimes wonder why they never made Garanimals for big kids

I an not an expert on this, but I read once while sitting in a doctor’s office in one of those magazines that write about these things in depth.

They had an expose on women who like to dress their men and take pleasure in not only walking them through the aisles and holding out the clothes and having them try on each piece as you describe.

They did an in depth study with 100 women who did this. They had them fill out a questionaire and followed them for over an year. The conclusion was the habit started when the women saw the first skid mark on their mans drawers..

I'm a fan of women buying clothes for men. It's something most men can allow with a minimum of fuss that most women enjoy out of all proportion. It is not unusual for my wife to mention when and where she got me a particular item, so I know it is important to her. Why not if she enjoys it so much (and has a MUCH better eye for such things than I do).

I draw the line though at business clothes (at least for lawyers and businessmen). Clothing in those professions is just like for a soldier or an airline pilot, and one must wear the uniform. Unless the wife/girlfriend genuinely understands that uniform and has no desire to update it or to add flair or style, a woman who likes shopping for her man should limit her efforts to the remainder of the wardrobe - what her man wears in the evenings, on weekends, and on vacation.
