A close-up view of the central bulge of the Milky Way Galaxy, partially obscured by a dark jagged swath of intervening gas and dust. Magnifico!
Gorgeous image except for the dark jagged swaths of intervening gas and dust silhouettes obscuring the lower part ....
Awesome Pic Ping!
Thanks houeto, extra to APoD.
From the Australian group, The Church. Cool pics of stars/Milky Way on the video:

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty,
Sound of their breath fades with the light.
I think about the loveless fascination,
Under the milky way tonight.
Lower the curtain down in Memphis,
Lower the curtain down all right.
I got no time for private consultation,
Under the milky way tonight.
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
And it’s something quite peculiar,
Something that’s shimmering and white.
Leads you here despite your destination,
Under the milky way tonight
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
Under the milky way tonight.
And it’s something quite peculiar,
Something that’s shimmering and white.
Leads you here despite your destination,
Under the milky way tonight
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
Wish I knew what you were looking for.
Might have known what you would find.
But but but the Bible doesn't mention space aliens, so there can't be life elsewhere, unless it's demons. There can't there can't there CAN'T!!!
Wonderous!
The north-south tracks are mostly spy satellites. As the earth turns under the plane of the orbit each track views a different slice of the surface, allowing everywhere to fall under its watchful eye twice a day.

I don't have words adequate to tell you how much I appreciate your posting the Church video link "Under The Milky Way".
I was just sitting here this morning checking email and reading FReep and having a cup of coffee, and now I've got tears streaming down my cheeks and I can't move... Not sure exactly why it had such a profound effect on me, today in particular... Maybe it's because I'm going through some heavy-duty life changes (relationship, job, living alone again)... or maybe it was just the right thing at the right time...
But seeing the majesty of God's Creation presented in such a powerful way (the motion of the stars, including clouds and the occasional aircraft or meteor, and the aurora) was just overwhelming. The song was very good; not my personal style but enjoyable and very well done. On the other hand, the video simply took my breath away and hasn't given it back yet.
My day is completely changed, and I feel my life has been enriched considerably.
Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You Thank You
Most sincerely and gratefully, Dayglored
