Thumbs Up

August 22, 2013

Pandora is one of the musical marvels of the Internet age. It helps you create your own personal radio station by allowing you to “customize” your music. It plays a song and you then click a thumbs up or thumbs down sign to indicate whether or not you like it. You end up with a grouping of only songs that you like.

Unfortunately, sometimes we do that with the Bible too. People may choose some Scripture passages they especially like and ignore others, and so they “customize” it to their preferences. The psalmist looked at God’s Word this way: “The entirety of Your Word is truth” (Ps. 119:160). And the apostle Paul told Timothy, a young pastor, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable” (2 Tim. 3:16).

The Scriptures were important to Jesus (Matt. 5:17-18), but He looked at them differently than the religious leaders of His day. To Him, “You shall not murder” was on the level of being “angry with [a] brother without a cause” (vv.21-22). Far from customizing Scripture, He was concerned about the motivation of people’s hearts in applying all of it.

As we embrace God’s Word more fully, we’ll know Him more deeply and desire to honor Him.

Lord, I don’t want to treat Your Word lightly or
to dismiss what seems too difficult. Show me
my heart and help me to obey from the heart
whatever You tell me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
When you open your Bible, ask the Author to open your heart.

Read: Matthew 5:17-20

The entirety of Your Word is truth. —Psalm 119:160
Bible in a Year:
Psalms 110-112; 1 Corinthians 5

This is so pretty, Meg. I enjoyed it very much. Hope you’re having a great day. I laid back down a while and am now getting myself cleaned up. Think I may run out and bring back lunch. There’s a restaurant close to me that does home cooking and very delicious beans and cornbread and that may be my choice today. But I’ll check their special lunch plate today also before I make up my mind. Its as cheap to buy it as it is to cook it. LOL!

What is true ... every moment is a gift. Every breath. We ignore or pay scant attention to the blessing of life.

We see, hear, speak, walk, talk, think, imagine, create, breathe and the thousands of functions occurring in our bodies are not considered unless we are in pain or sick.

We go blithely on our way, seeming unaware of the profoundness of our own bodies. An incredible gift of God. Babies are a miracle. Life is a miracle. A mighty Oak grows from a seed we can hold in our hand IN MANY YEARS. Wonders are everywhere and we take no note of them. Water is a miracle. We must have it. Yet we take no notice until it is absent. or scarce.

WAKE UP AND CONSIDER THE PROFOUNDNESS OF THE UNIVERSE. we ARE A PART OF IT. Blessed OF God ... AND WE SEEM TO NOT KNOW IT.

No wonder the youth care little for life itself in regard to others.

OUR POETS HAVE DISCOVERED THE PROFOUNDNESS OF A GRAIN OF SAND, OR A BLDE OF GRASS. Perhaps there are others. Scientist!

I laugh at myself when I talk about home cooking brought home from a restaurant. Seems it hard to cook a lot of good things for just one. I need to eat more vegetables like cabbage and fresh greens, etc. I miss those things but when you’re cooking for two instead of one, it makes it more worthwhile! Cooking for one seems harder to me. I’ve always said I don’t know how to cook a little bit of the good foods and I hate wasting food. You either have to cook it or go out and get it. I’m the only one to make the big decisions....LOL!! I’ll decide sooner or later.

Your post hits the nail on the head, Geo. We sure do take a lot of the wonderful things for granted. We need to always thank God each day for all he provides for us! We cook the food but He provides it for us.

We see, hear, speak, walk, talk, think, imagine, create, breathe and the thousands of functions occurring in our bodies are not considered unless we are in pain or sick. AMEN! Thanks for those words.

I don’t cook..I heat up..Cooking for one is hard..There are so many good frozen things now. When I go to a “home cooking” restaurant I load up on greens, spinach, cabbage.. to reheat.
I don’t eat enough veges either.
