Procol Harum performing A Whiter Shade of Pale.. the 1967 version.... This is the original 16mm Scopitone conversion, from the 'summer of love' 1967 hit record. Vocals and piano played by Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher played the Hammond organ, and these original lyrics were written by Keith Reid...[H/T maggiesfarm]

I like this version a lot better, but it has only gotten abut 700 views.
Stairway to Heaven--Neil Sedaka (1960)
Not exactly the same thing now, is it?
I thought you might care enough to enlighten us...to tell us what it is that moved you...and why.
If you mistake me for an antagonistic person, you are mistaken.
I seek the truth and love the honest opinions of others.
Just my opinion, but this is one of a handful of songs that bored the snot out of me.
Others?
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack?
When A Man Loves A Woman - Percy Sledge
You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling - Righteous Brothers
All You Need Is Love - Beatles
These just seem to drone on and on.
Sorry if I dumped on your favorite song...
You did miss out on the swing era. I did too. But why are you hassling me over a music thread? Someone posted a link insisting that the 60s was the best music era ever and I disagreed. Why don’t you ask that person to enlighten us too. Why do you bother just me. You are antagonistic in my opinion.
I was taking my conservative arguments and Ayn Rand into the belly of the beast, 1971 was also the year that I won my permanent deferment from the draft after two years of battling, and then enlisted in the Army.
In late 1972 I was taking my arguments to my favorite hang out in Tacoma, the famous, ‘The Shelter Half’ famous as a lefty coffee house of the time where I could watch North Vietnamese propaganda films and talk of capitalism and God, that is, when I wasn’t with the Nisqually Indians out at the reservation or out in the field on duty.
I'm not hassling you (lay off the pot and the paranoia will go away--just kidding).
That said, don't you have some good swing links for us.
I like swing but have forgotten the best.
PS *you're
Thanks for sharing that. It never ceases to amaze me the connections FReepers have with history.
Despite my dislike of the song, I’m planning to watch the video, out of ‘historical’ interest. (Don’t want to interrupt wife’s TV-watching at the moment...)
Why do you need to be referred to big band links from me? Google, Bing, Yahoo, ect are your friends. Youtube.com has plenty of big band links. Try a music service or something like Rhapsody or ITunes. Why do you have to even mention laying off the pot and the paranoia will go away. This is something I would never say and proof that you like hassling people and are just wise ass.

Good night idiot.
Um...Good night to you too?
Generational tastes, nostalgia. Old farts who grew up during the 1940s tell us that there will never be anything “greatest” than Guy Lombardo and such tripe. Oh, OK!
I’ll second that!
Well I don’t see anyone who grew up in the 90s and 00s will be bragging about the music they grew up with 50 years from now, that’s for sure.
Cool!
I love those Ringo Starr’s All Star concerts (been to four of them), and I got to see Gary Brooker perform this song a few years ago.
Sounded as good as ever.
A person asks for your opinion out of genuine interest and they are hassling you?
Sorry pal...that sounds like the excessive 60's to me.
Hassling you, indeed!
Hey, "don't Bogart that joint, my friend!"
"Was that a knock at the door?"
