I am starting "The Guns of August: The Pulitzer Prize-Winning Classic About the Outbreak of World War I"
About to finish “The Shelter Cycle” by Peter Rock, and start on “The Blood of Heaven” by Kent Wascom, why’re you axin’?
So Far:
The Generals
by Thomas E. Ricks
The Outpost
by Jake Tapper
Civilization
by Niall Ferguson
It’s always nice to know what fellow SMART people are reading. Might give some people ideas on good/or bad books to read/avoid.
What did you think of “The Generals”?
Read The Fifth Wave. Really enjoyed it.
“Guns at Last Light”, volume three of Rick Atkinson’s liberation trilogy about the U.S. war in Europe.
Resistance to Tyrants: Romans 13 and the Christian duty to oppose wicked rulers
Currently on book 6 of 10 of this excellent novel series.
Amazon: Dangerous Diplomacy: How the State Department Threatens America's Security
"...investigative reporter Joel Mowbray exposes the hidden agendas, mixed allegiances, and outright antiAmericanism that has infected the U.S. State Department. Relying on exhaustive interviews with State Department personnel and extensive research into State's publications, procedures, and recent history, Mowbray reveals an astounding pattern of shortsighted and misguided policies, compounded by an ingrained and selfcriticism and correction."
I'm also reading The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went To War In 1914, which sort of led to all the reading above. Slow, excruciating detail and scary as all git out because we're headed down a very similar road.
TM 9-1005223-35, Rifle, 7.62-MM: M-14, July 1968 and TM 9-1005-211-12, Pistol, Caliber .45,Automatic, M1911A1, With Holster, Hip, September 1968, as well as Marine Bayonet Training, FMFM 1-1,25 March 1965. What else is there to know?
I liked it. It was well worth the read. I saw the author on a panel on C-Span and the current military thinkers didn’t really seem to like this guy.
I was only kidding, and yes, I always look for ideas on what to read. Here and everywhere.
“The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War” by David Halberstam. It blows....
“Margaret Thatcher The Downing Street Years” by Margaret Thatcher
I consider “Blacklisted by History” one of three “must reads” for all Freepers. The other two are “Death By Government” by RJ Rummel, and “The Harbinger” by Johnathan Cahn.
Let’s see, finished so far these last two months.
War of the Rats, The Book Thief, brave new world, pirates, a couple more.
War of the Rats was real good, Book thief was excellent writing.
Pirates was fun. Another good one I read recently was Pathfinder. Which reminds me I have to make another stop at the thrift shop to find a new couple of books. I’d be broke if I bought new.
Free Republic, Lucky magazine (fashion), on book 3 of Games of Thrones, and the subtitles for Korean dramas-—yes, that is reading; for those interested, I recommend Rooftop Prince(time travel), Answer Me 1997 ( boy band fan girl angst) and Personal Taste (mistaken identity) all sweet love stories with old fashion morality.
Harry Potter in Spanish. Good way to learn.
FMCDH(BITS)
I’m on the third out of the four books from the “Andrew Britton Bundle: The American, The Assassin,The Invisible, The Exile”. Four books available on Amazon for $9.99. Sort of a Mitch Rapp style CIA agent.
