Wal-Mart is making Twinkies available this weekend, even though Hostess says it asked retailers to wait until Monday to start selling the spongy yellow snack cakes.
The world's largest retailer announced Friday that the cakes were available at about 1,600 stores and that about 3,000 of its 4,000 U.S. stores should have them by Sunday morning. That's a day before the July 15 return that Hostess has trumpeted in its marketing.

By morning, that had dropped to about $20.
SnoBalls return in the fall so the article states.
Much of the price paid was for the tradename “Hostess”.
Don't kid yourself.
I grew up on hostess. Loved them. Would easily have paid a premium for them.
Somehow they lost quality control over their bakers. I seriously doubt this was related to union work-rules. They started putting out stale cakes that tasted terrible. And other cakes were simply better. Not as good as Hostess used to be, but better than Hostess is now.
You know that scene from Ghost Rider..."That might go good on a salad."

“...no cook apple pie with Twinkies and apple pie filling.”
Mmmmmmmm, that sounds interesting. Do you have a ‘recipe’ for that one? Crust? A cold pie in ‘fridge? Google only turns-up hot bake/crust/topping Twinkie pies. Sounds worth trying.
They’re shipping some of the frozen now, to extend shelf life.

Not this weekend. Krispy Kreme is celebrating their anniversary on Saturday with the second dozen of regular glazed for 76 cents.
(I’m with you on the orange cupcakes, though.)

How about Cupcakes, Ding Dongs and fruit pies? All better(and more fattening!) than the Twinkie.
Should folks snap up the first new releases or wait until they get the bugs out?
The WM locations near the big trial can hand them out to the looters as they leave with their TVs..
For kicks, we purchased a few boxes and I offered them up to my neighborhood kids at the bus stop and one mother wanted to buy a box and try to sell it. I explained that the brand will be back..
Oh the Hugh Twinkie!
How many innocents will be trampled in the stampede to Walmart?
Yes!
I want my Suzy Q’s
really? Obama resigned?
My carefully rationed stockpile, bought in 1988, is still as fresh as the day they were baked......
