Rare 3D Camera Found Containing Photos from WWI
"One cold morning last year, we attended an estate in the Niagara Falls where we were fortunate enough to come across and purchase a rare World War I Richard Verascope stereo camera previously owned by the French Army. The camera is in pristine condition and included the original leather carrying case and glass slides. Each slide is a piece of history in photographic form and I get shivers every time I place a glass slide into the 3D stereo viewer. Only at A Nerds World 986 Bathurst street can you see the 3D stereo camera, viewer, and actual World War I slides in person leaving you with an experience youll never forget."
(Note: The following are some of the rendered 3D images as GIFs when the two stereoscopic images are combined. For more background info, visit the Nerd's World and IO9 links provided in the comment post.)

With some effort it is possible to look at these side by side pictures and capture the stereo effect without a viewer.
Ping for later.
Very cool.
That’s really neat.
They fought the war during an earthquake????
Very nifty!
WOW! Stunning. Thanks for sharing.
I’d rather the pictures be side by side so that I can transpose them myself to get the 3D effect.
It’s hard to see the flickering as anything but flickering.
Thank you.
Wave your hand back and forth in front of your eyes at the same rate as the pictures are changing. If you do it just right, the image will stabilize and you will see the 3D effect.
Neat - but shot of camera is printed backwards. (Shutter must be Armed, not demrA).
Incredibly moving photos. Bflr.
lol ... And to think I just thought it was in a foreign language! (That was how the photo was posted to the blog sites by the original authors/posters.)
Thanks for posting those, they are AMAZING.
Someone also posted the “Faces of the American Revolution” tonight.

Happy 4th to All!!
FWIW, the tanks in the first "stereograph" are French built. When the US invaded Afghanistan in the early 2000s, two of them were found in a junk yard. I think one of them, after both were refurbished, is in the US tank museum in KY.
OEM powertrain was a state-of-the-art Renault 4cyc, 35 HP engine...
Wow....is this a first for Free Republic?
