Enid Woman Wants Justice After Police Shoot, Kill Family Dog

ENID, Oklahoma -

A family pet was shot to death by a police officer and the pet's owner is claiming that the officer was too quick to pull the trigger. Now her dog is gone and she is demanding justice.

North Enid Police were called to Stacey Long's neighborhood for reports of a dog at large. Long said when police arrived they shot and killed her dog in her own front yard.

"It was our baby, family member … we loved that dog," said Long.

Long buried her dog but not her anger over his death.

"For no reason to shoot him in his own yards seems cruel to me," she said.

Diego died one month ago and every day since then Stacey Long has replayed the scene in her mind.

"He could have called animal control and had them pick him up. That seems like the common sense thing to me."

According to a police report, Diego began aggressively barking at the North Enid Police Chief when he stepped out of his patrol car. The chief fired one shot, killing Diego.

Long says there have not been any complaints made against her dog and that her dog never been aggressive. She also says she is so confident her dog did not attack, she requested to see the dash cam video from the patrol car, but she says the request was denied.

"They refuse to give us information"

North Enid Police also refused to talk with News9 about the incident. The pet owner has now hired an attorney and plans to file a claim against the city.

....or maybe it prepares them to be further desensitized to one day shooting Freepers and their families.

Hey they like shooting dogs.

They're just practicing for when the 0bama regime gives the word to start shooting people on a whim.

A lawsuit should include the police officer, the chief of police who employed him, the mayor who tolerated the officer's employment and finally, the city.

Orders from on high. Muslims don’t like dogs.

What’s this woman’s complaint: aren’t cops supposed to shoot dogs? Am I missing something? /s

I am so tired of this crap. People today and the police are such wussies.

Yes, there are bad dogs that attack and kill but most are NOT that way. I also get irritated with people for not keeping a better eye on their dogs when they let them out, even in a fenced backyard. Keep people safe and your animal safe!

When I grew up most dogs in my neighborhood were not in a fenced yard, they roamed. There were some houses where the dogs would chase you and bark, nip, etc.

One house had two Samoyed dogs, we would get peddling as fast as we could and then lift our feet as we approached that house! There were a few houses like that, but usually we had our dog running with us and it would cut the other dogs off.

People now seem stupid scared of dogs. A few months ago we heard a woman screaming bloody murder, she caused us to go out front and a truck to stop.

What was it that had her screaming? A dog. She insisted the dog was trying to attack her, the dog was standing at the corner, just looking at her, like the idiot she was. The dog was probably about 40 yds away from her.

The dog wasn’t barking and wasn’t acting vicious...just stopped to watch her act a fool. Also, that’s probably an action that is most likely to get a person in trouble with an animal. The dog went back to whatever business it was on and we just turned around and went back inside. Silly woman.

I can’t believe police are so quick to shoot, can’t they use pepper spray or something? Anyhow, I hope the woman sues the socks off the police dept, I hope more people start doing that so that police aren’t quite so trigger happy. Sad, sad, sad.

I was a mailman for 10 years. Dogs, even the obnoxious ones on the loose are NOT a threat.

I’ve been nipped at, but NEVER once had to shoot one.

They gave us spray, which was not very effective.

My never-fail solution? Doggie treats. Worked EVERY time.

Cops shoot dogs because they’re being “Rambo” on easy targets. Period.
There’s NO excuse for it. Like another poster said: They’re practicing for when it’s US they can kill on a whim.

If the dog was in a fenced yard, the Police Officer is in the wrong and could loose his badge. We had a Police officer shoot our dog in the yard complaining our dog was killing his chickens.

Next day he lost more chickens because, go figure, it was not our dog.

He ended up in front of internal affairs being told that if we wanted to press charges, his career in the police was over. He apologized, and we let him off the hook.

Just because you have a badge, does not mean that you get to kill at will.

Here’s hoping that her attorney is savvy enough to make that point. She pays for the cops, not to shoot her dog, but to protect and serve her. They have to prove that there was no choice but to slaughter her beloved family pet, but I bet that they can’t, the pigs.

I am living in Thailand, dogs on the loose are the norm. They see me and immediately start barking as they know I am not Thai.

I am about the area walking daily, my defense of choice is a flyswatter. Out of the 100’s of dogs that have barked and came at me, I have yet to be bit.

The worst seems to come when I am riding a bike and they come after me. My first option is to ignore them, but if they get within about 3 feet I slam on the brakes and confront the dog yelling get out of here. This has worked 100% of the time.

Once I was walking without my flyswatter and a very large dog probably 140 lbs barked at me. I stopped and said “Come here boy” in a friendly voice. The dog actually did and we became friends, but I was reminded of the movie Turner and Hooch as I was slobbered on.

There’s her answer right there.

“People now seem stupid scared of dogs.”

Simple cause and effect.

Because of all the bargain basement histrionics spewed every time some ‘scary dog’ bites somebody, somewhere, people have been brainwashed into a “killer pit bull” state of mind.

The MSM has succeeded.

Dogs have been demonized.

Meanwhile, sodomites and pedophiles are grabbing children every day but no one mentions that because they’re a protected class.
