Where does one go when one doesn't want to be an American anymore?
Vanity | 6.26.13 | golux

Attack me if you will.

Yes, yes - check my profile - I am indeed presently living abroad for work but I have always been a flag-waving American.

At the moment some members of this august forum - which I have adored for many years, long before I was "golux" - believe Sarah can beat Hillary... Believe America will come to its senses on homosexual everything... Believe there will be some "push back," believe that for the first time in history (well, sine Appomatox) the Federal government will stop expending exponentially... Believe that Career Congresscritters will once again deign to "represent" their constituents... Believe that our Moslem president and his minions at the Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming can somehow use their out-of-control, unaccountable spy agencies to audit conservatives into regaining, for America, some miniscule thread of respect in this world... Believe that if we try - if we really try - hard enough to teach our kids how to F each other up the A in grade school and on Sesame Street, then Americans might have jobs and hope again.

But I'm just not seeing it. I really do believe that our country is sick. Mortally sick.

Yep, I've read Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. You should too. It'll take you many months, but it's worth doing. The similarities are uncanny. Shockingly so.

I guess I still love America and that for which she "stood." I have sacrificed much for my patriotism as so many of us have - and I have been blessed by our wonderful society. I love America. I LOVE America.

But the Founders' message is real. Ayn Rand's message is real. The LORD and His Commandments are real. I am not a Christian, but if America were a Church (in my case a synagogue,) I'd leave it.

If the RNC were a Church I would leave it.

I have a family. I am afraid for my children's brains, their sexuality, their knowledge of good and evil, their morality. I have lived in many places and can assure you ours is no longer the land of the free.

I am tired of arguing with European (Jews, mainly) about how America isn't crime-ridden, filled with bums and fags and pedophiles and drug addicts and perverted teachers and communists and obese, immoral, undereducated welfare zombies.

America is. We are. After 9/11 we elected a freakin' guy named (probably) Barack Hussein Obama, about whom we know less than nothing. We did this. Is Satan in charge of America?

Tonight I told the Aesop fable about the dog and the wolf to my kids. I love to draw these stories out with details, sounds, et cetera.

For the first time I realized I was being a hypocrite comparing Americans to the wild, free wolf rather than the enslaved, fat, stupid dog, and it choked me up.

My hope is dead. Even a revolution seems impossible. We have traded all of our liberties for safety, and delight in the process, sucking on Soma and flocking to Wal Mart for more American flag decals stamped by Chinese preteens.

But what to do? Where to go?

I love Free Republic. Would there were one.

You got me. I won’t beg, but if you’d care to tell me where you’re talking about I will make a personal oath to you right now that I will never publish, broadcast, or post the name of this place. (But I might see you at the pizza place!)

Thanks for your post.

Costa Rica or Panama.

They openly embrace Americans coming to live and work and will grant practically immediate visas.

I understand your concern about your kids. My grandfather helped me set up my Irish passport back in the day & frankly, at the time, I did it more for him than myself. But, by doing that, I can now pass on my Irish citizenship to them. What they do is up to them....at least they can get out of here if needs be. I’ll be deep in flyover country in several years & deal with what comes.

When I started reading this thread I knew you’d jump in.

BTW, I hated “The Cloud Dwellers”.

Costa Rica.

There are reportedly 3 million U.S. ex-pats there.

The problem is that those people are busy wrecking it for everybody else and the IRS follows you everywhere you go, even if you renounce your citizenship.

Everyone’s answer will have to be different.

Look up. Pray. You can afford to make a few mistakes if God is with you; you cannot afford to make this kind of decision without taking him with you.

Some of us will be called to ride out the storm; some will be called to get our families to safe haven. Only God knows which is you and where that is for you.

In either case its not really about you as I suspect you already know. In either case you will have to be there for the folks who are counting on you.

Russia is dead set against homo rights. Christianity is experiencing a monumental resurgence. Their borders are secure. They do not tolerate mudslime terrorists and call them what they are. They are pretty much energy independent and don’t follow the cult of gorebull warming. They mine minerals and use them to create wealth and opportunity.

All of this sounds intoxicating - vodka aside, and I do love it - but I wonder if there are any Jews left in Russia. I will admit I couldn't help but smile at the "NYET" headline on Drudge: Putin surely thinks of Obama what Netanyahu thinks of Obama. And then there's the language. Quite a challenge, but not impossible. The posts on this thread about Russia have been fascinating.

I’m in complete agreement, but rather than flee, why not stay and fight? Of course, somebody has to start the revolution, and nobody seems willing to do that.
All that has gone wrong, we have permitted. The people whom we revere as the Founding Fathers, did not flee or shrink from fighting.
That’s why we had the nation we now haven’t the guts to defend and preserve.

The U.S. has a lot of natural resources. Russia or China will own us once that culture is in charge. I hate to say it but we’d probably be better off if Russia was to take over. Having served in the military during the Cold War I can’t believe I’m thinking this way.

No flames, please. I can’t help the way I think.

BTW, guy, as of 16 May 2012 (!), Panama has a NEW permanent visa/residence programme. You'll love this: you need 1) $5000 or more in a Panamanian bank, 2) a job (UNspecified as to condition!) with any Panamanian company, 3) a personal reference from a Panameno, 4) a clean police record.

That's IT! In short, any decent American/Canadian will qualify. Couple of hundred in attorney's fees, I've no doubt.

And, unlike the famed Panamanian pensionado programme, with this visa, one is still on the citizenship track. Have to speak Spanish well and know Panamanian history. Not onerous at all...well, except that SAJ is a poor linguist, but I'm working on it, working on it.

Does it count if the new immigrant happens to own the panamanian company? In other words, you establish your own business?

I’ll stick it out here. If it hits the fan, I’ll go back to the woods in a county with 20,000 people and away from the priority areas for the feds.

Could have swore you were quite a cunning linguist!

Dang, I don’t speak a lick of Spanish.

Started doing books for small businesses recently. Have a couple of clients. But not a lot of work, pretty much can do it in my sleep.

Whoa!
New Zealand is notorious for electing libtards to run the govt.
Remember the US Navy ship that was challenged to reveal if it carried nukes before entering the harbor? We refused to confirm or deny and got kicked out and the SEATO treaty was dissolved as a result.
I know because my hubs was on that ship...just sayin’.

I’m Arkansas born and raised but have lived out of state for 30 years. I’m considering Harrison, Arkansas. It’s got a lot of what I’m looking for. And it doesn’t have a lot of what I’m NOT looking for, if you get my meaning.
