Attack me if you will.
Yes, yes - check my profile - I am indeed presently living abroad for work but I have always been a flag-waving American.
At the moment some members of this august forum - which I have adored for many years, long before I was "golux" - believe Sarah can beat Hillary... Believe America will come to its senses on homosexual everything... Believe there will be some "push back," believe that for the first time in history (well, sine Appomatox) the Federal government will stop expending exponentially... Believe that Career Congresscritters will once again deign to "represent" their constituents... Believe that our Moslem president and his minions at the Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming can somehow use their out-of-control, unaccountable spy agencies to audit conservatives into regaining, for America, some miniscule thread of respect in this world... Believe that if we try - if we really try - hard enough to teach our kids how to F each other up the A in grade school and on Sesame Street, then Americans might have jobs and hope again.
But I'm just not seeing it. I really do believe that our country is sick. Mortally sick.
Yep, I've read Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. You should too. It'll take you many months, but it's worth doing. The similarities are uncanny. Shockingly so.
I guess I still love America and that for which she "stood." I have sacrificed much for my patriotism as so many of us have - and I have been blessed by our wonderful society. I love America. I LOVE America.
But the Founders' message is real. Ayn Rand's message is real. The LORD and His Commandments are real. I am not a Christian, but if America were a Church (in my case a synagogue,) I'd leave it.
If the RNC were a Church I would leave it.
I have a family. I am afraid for my children's brains, their sexuality, their knowledge of good and evil, their morality. I have lived in many places and can assure you ours is no longer the land of the free.
I am tired of arguing with European (Jews, mainly) about how America isn't crime-ridden, filled with bums and fags and pedophiles and drug addicts and perverted teachers and communists and obese, immoral, undereducated welfare zombies.
America is. We are. After 9/11 we elected a freakin' guy named (probably) Barack Hussein Obama, about whom we know less than nothing. We did this. Is Satan in charge of America?
Tonight I told the Aesop fable about the dog and the wolf to my kids. I love to draw these stories out with details, sounds, et cetera.
For the first time I realized I was being a hypocrite comparing Americans to the wild, free wolf rather than the enslaved, fat, stupid dog, and it choked me up.
My hope is dead. Even a revolution seems impossible. We have traded all of our liberties for safety, and delight in the process, sucking on Soma and flocking to Wal Mart for more American flag decals stamped by Chinese preteens.
But what to do? Where to go?
I love Free Republic. Would there were one.
Sounds like Massatwochitts.
After you have done so, AND HAVE THAT NATION'S PASSPORT IN HAND, simply go to any US embassy on foreign soil and sign a 'formal renunciation of citizenship' form. No cost, as far as I know, and you should be good to go -- AND LAWFULLY FREE of the IRS forever -- in, perhaps, 60 days' time.
And, you can still lawfully travel to the US to see friends and relatives. Frankly, I should not be surprised to see the Kenyan Marxist try to get the Regress to change this law, or change it by Executive Odor. OTOH, perhaps this subhuman has more on his plate than that to concern him, these days.
No matter what you decide to do, GET INFORMED NOW. Not all confinement walls are of the East Berlin variety, true?
FReegards!
LOL. Outstanding
Rural and small town America in a red state still the best place to live. Things just look bad because we are used to so much better.
The Bahamas are nice, but if things go really bad, food could be an issue. There is too much salt to grow produce so most food is brought in. Medical coverage is very good, even non-citizens get medical coverage if they are residents. But overall, not as good as America, and I have relatives living there so I’m familiar with the situation.
And I tire of constant summer, with the only change being rain or no rain.
I’ll stick it out in the States. My kid is grown, she can figure it out for herself.
People talking New Zealand can forget it. They only take brain surgeons and such, very picky. Swiss people tell me there is no economic opportunity there unless you come from the “right families.”
I suspect that all the lauded alternatives to America aren’t as good once you try to live in them.
Maybe if you kept moving so as to always feel like you are on vacation you’d be happy. But that’s expensive.
BTTT!
I’ll add my two cents to your question. Essentially I think you’re asking, “where can an American go and live with at least a semblance of the values expressed in the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution”?
I love this country and what it stood for. I love the places in our nation where our American values are still lived out in their local governments. Admittedly that is now a shrinking commodity (or at least it appears to be).
The problem with moving, even within the U.S., is what about one’s family members? - I’m talking grandchildren, parents, kids (on all sides). It doesn’t seem right to leave them behind. It’s a real problem because even if all wanted to move, what about jobs let alone a place to live?
What have some of you done about dealing with those family issues?
This is exactly how I feel at this very moment!
Right now I’d settle for a place that still celebrates Western Civilization.
Vatican. It's a state.
We have lots of wimmin, but they're toothless, ugly, aggressive, desperate...and randy.
exactly ... thank you
yes, I can see the southern baptists running off to the Crimea
I cried while reading this. It’s apparent that we are headed for civil war and most of us who understand what is lost are too old to fight it. The only thing that may bring us back is the monetary implosion that is inevitable. When people have to put there minds to survival, they will pay attention and will want retribution for the stupidity and criminal behavior that brought a once great country to her knees.
I too almost pray for an economic collapse to come. As horrible as that sounds, it may be the only way we get out from under the horrible oppressive government and possibly have a wake up and repentance of the depraved citizens. I get teary eyed all the time at different things., just talking with my elderly mom (in her 90s) about the way things used to be, remembering how things were even just 20-30 years ago (even though the rot had already set in, you just couldn’t see it as obviously yet) and think, my kids will never remember the way America was, when it was good and moral and free.
Just curious about your feelings on where to go when things crash and burn in those other nations?
I have a friend who lives in Costa Rica part time and she has an escape plan to the United States in the event of a global collapse. She points out that many friendly locals can go rabid pretty quickly in the face of hardship and being a foreigner in a strange land makes you a stand out target.
Her feeling is that here in the states, unrest will be mostly confined to urban areas and there will always flyover country where a person of reasonable skills can find a place to settle.
Depends on how much money you have.
I have thought about this before, too, but I still have a mustard seed of faith left in those who inhabit the deepest parts of America. There are millions of square miles in this nation where people live, work and raise their families, and these same people love our land AND love truth. They hate tyranny, and many of them own firearms. IF it comes down to it, and it might, there will be a VERY brutal, ugly and effective resistance to the Leftists and other statist types. Just come to Arkansas sometime and drive through the vast forest wilderness; imagine being some Obama stooge from Washington or Massachusetts stumbling around in the woods looking for patriots. They WILL die.
I have been moved and enlightened by the posts so far on this thread, as well as the private messages. I have read them carefully.
I am always thrilled and amazed at how worldly, experienced and smart FReepers are. Maybe this thread can serve as some sort of clearing house for ideas.
I don’t really disagree with anyone except those who count on a “revolution.” We are too weak, to indoctrinated, too fat, too undeserving even of His blessings in such an endeavor. I am reminded of the last lines of that old TS Eliot poem:
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.
Belize? Malta? These are possibilities I had not even considered.
Finally, to those who say “stick it out” that when you have young kids the stakes are insanely high. I am not worried about ME. I am worried, as the founders were, about my progeny.
Try a google search on "храм христа спасителя"
Looks pretty Christian to me:
I mean, that's for starters. They're in the process of building 200 new Christian churches in and around Moscow.
I’d say we are almost equal to Russia now. I’m originally from the USSR and this is terrifying.
-We have more social freedom but they have more economic freedom. The tax rate in Russia is a flat 13% and practically no regulations for most industries. Youll never find a billion dollar construction project delayed because of a snail in Russia.
-Government corruption is sky high in both nations but the Russian government is a much smaller beast with not much room to grow. You see, Russians are much better adapted to deal with corruption and have seen government as an enemy for almost 100 years. Most Americans still believe government is good and will feed the beast until it eats them.
-They have violent organized criminals. We have violent feral criminals.
-Huge mafia influence and business violence are the biggest problems in Russia. The only real law is the barrel of a gun. There are plenty of raw resources and capable workers but nobody wants to invest if the competition will literally put a gun to their head. I believe Russia will be the #1 nation, per capita, if the rule of law prevails.
Unbelievable. You want us to continue to use the corrupted political process which has failed to slow down the the decay. I reject your blind, finger-in-the-dike, mentality. It's over. O-V-E-R. A majority of pagans, with all of their dehumanizing values, have won the battle for the heart and soul of this once great nation. All that's left for them is the mopping up action against the powerless. Keep your slogans and phone campaigns. They do nothing to reverse the tide.
