To cleanse the palate. I was going to do another post on the disappointment that is Rubio and how the “American workers can’t cut it” quote from his aide looks even worse in context, but neither of those topics depressed me enough. I needed something more eeyorish, something to make me despair about the judgment of the electorate at large, not just a bunch of Beltway RINOs who aren’t even smart enough to pander to the right constituency. And then, thanks to PPP, I found it.
I can accept defeat on this question but I can’t accept a landslide. Every day, on various topics, I find commenters tweeting “America is finished.” Only now do I realize that they’re right.
No daylight between the RINOs and true conservatives there, my friends. This is why we lose elections.
The partisan split is surprising. Not the Republican numbers, but the Democratic ones:
I thought there’d be a stronger feline showing among both Dems and women. Nope. Both top out at 26 percent. In a world of partisan gaps and gender gaps, the population errs on this one uniformly.
In fact, unless I missed something in PPP’s crosstabs, there’s only one demographic that puts cats within double digits of dogs. It’s landslide after landslide when testing for sex, race, ideology, geography, even vegan/vegetarianism. Only one group makes a contest of it. The free-thinkers, the contrarians — the young adults:
Gay marriage, pot legalization, opposition to intrusive government, and cats (almost). Second look at the brightness of America’s future?
Update: On second thought, Jay Cost figured out a way to make me sufficiently depressed about Rubio.
It is hard to distinguish Rubio's approach on this from *exactly* what everybody expected Charlie Crist to do …

… Deal with Dems, make himself look good, make his own party look bad.

LOL ................HI Fawn!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh he is beautiful.
I’ve never tasted cat. But I had dog meat stir-fry in Korea once and it was delicious.
Timely topic.... I’ve got 2 girl cats who are unaware that their lives are in jeopardy right now.
You see, they pee all over the house and I’m so tired of it.
The floors in my 1840 home are about ruined, 2 queen beds have gone, 1 love seat, dining chairs. Rugs? Can’t keep ‘em. Pillows and blankets, lots of other things destroyed, too.
No cat trees or toys, as they get peed on immediately.
Don’t leave a box open, a sock on the floor or a piece of paper - all targets. My house is stinking of cat pee.
The little cat is an inbred Siamese who has peed all over since birth - short bus kitty, aye?
The other cat was my daughter’s. She pees when she’s mad, then the other one has to pee over that, and off we go.
Yep, tried lots of things. I gave up my herb room to have 5 litter boxes with a variety of litters. They use these daily, no problems.
They’ve been on kitty Prozac, tested for UTI’s and whatever else, food changes, crating, separating them - all to no avail. Cat pee odor removers don’t work very well, either.
The shame of it is that they’re both very sweet cats. Loving and snuggly, just adorable wee beasties. But hubby and I are tired of living in a 2300 SF potty box.
I’ve a call in to our vet - 6th call in a year - to discuss their fate. Can’t see leaving them lingering in a shelter and can’t live with them anymore. We live near a busy road so making them outside cats is not a good idea. Yep, we’re talking about putting them down, which is not easy to even think about, but we’re disgusted with living like this.
Aside from these 2, we have a man cat who is wonderful and pees only in his box. I think he’d die of shame to do otherwise. Hates to be picked up but will sit on your lap for hours. The best of a cat.
Our other resident is a new guy - 3-6 year old rescue dog, black lab and great dane if our guesses are right. Sweet as anything and I love him. He won’t poop in the fenced yard - he must be walked and his 5 pound burritos (3 per walk) removed by hand.
I’ve had cats and dogs most of my life - cats ALL of my life. Love them all but prefer doggies - they make my heart very glad.
My heart pees for you.
My heart pees for you.
LOL...most of the dogs owners in my Red Hampshire hood are *ssh*les...coincidentally, most of them are Obama voters...can't be sure about some of the others.
Dogs have owners, Cats have staff.
Potential ‘Cat From Hell’ candidates...there IS a reason; you just haven’t figured it out yet. :-(
Of course they do, dogs are just that awesome!
But so are cats. I guess.
One thing fo sho, both of ‘em better than some dang ‘ole Marco Frickin’ Rubio.
Cat is a bit sweeter, if you’ve had street food overseas, you’ve probably had cat too.
Bob the dog knew we didn’t like scooping so he would back up into a bush and hike his leg like he was peeing and deposit his load.
Pets = Overhead
If you want something on your lap to make you feel good It might as well be a woman.
Your going to pay for it one way or another anyway.
Thank you...he’s truly a devil-dog. A spoiled devil-dog!
Amy Farrah Fowler said it best on TBBT, cats are the definition of indfference.
Dogs preferred to cats in every age category. Over 65, it’s 57-19. Maybe it’s the wisdom that comes with age...you just can’t take a walk with a cat!
True about the CFH contestants. I wonder if he’d visit NY.
The little one has always peed, but she’s ‘special’.
She’s 6 but is still the size of 4 month kitten.
Not all there.
The other is the same age, but hates having other animals
around. We got her from our daughter, where she was
an only cat. After 2 years the 2 cats still hate
each other.
I love cats, but I can’t finish a whole one...
...and they blame YOU (and your possessions). Ding, ding, ding; I believe we have a winner. I have a rescue Siamese that is just fine UNTIL he sees us petting or feeding one of the neighborhood 'garage cats' abandoned by dirtbag former owners...then something of mine 'gets it'...usually a potted tomato plant I accidentally leave on the kitchen floor.
