Duke University senior threatens ‘student action’ if Koch brothers buy newspapers
The Daily Caller ^ | 6/14/2013 | Eric Owens

A Duke University student has threatened “student action” if billionaire brothers Charles Koch and David Koch purchase a host of well-known newspapers owned by the Tribune Company, including the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.

The ambiguous warning came after the student, senior Lucas Spangher, talked this week for 40 minutes with Duke trustee Bruce Karsh, reports The Chronicle, Duke’s student daily. Karsh is also the president of Oaktree Capital Management, the largest Tribune Company debt holder since the company exited bankruptcy at the end of 2012.

Is this part of a project for their Goebbels 101 class?

Duke, a private university (extremely well endowed to the tune of more than 900 mil), where 2013 tuition base is 22,010, plus additional more than 4k for the registration/activity and not counting required dormitory fees of up to $5k per year and required dining plan of 2400/year. As an undergrad.

So this little darling who apparently went to Oxford UK as (what?) probably a rower....yada yada yada. Elite meets to greet the debtholder and “threatens” action. Debtholder says— hey— they pay we sell... period.

According to two different web sites it was $5.7 BILLION in 2011.

Why? He reminds me of a child that starts screaming when his Mother says he’s going to the Doctor. He doesn’t even know what is going to happen.

Really, this kid represents almost everything I hate about Duke. Poor little rich white kid, comes from Smithtown, New York, 96% white, median income over $100,000, smug, full of himself, gaia worshiper....parroting back what ever his elititst teachers/professors spoon feed him, as late as a year ago, he was repeating the lie about the hockey stick graphs, here is part of one of his "editorials"

Carbon dioxide levels are currently 396.18 parts per million, over 110 ppm higher than levels just prior to the Industrial Revolution. I’ve been aware of climate change since the third grade. I’ve read about environmental issues for as long as I can remember. Still, writing that sentence brought a cold sweat to my brow. The famous, so-called “hockey stick graph” clearly depicts the pace of climate change. It shows two lines beating periodically over the course of 400,000 years. A blue line signifies temperature and a red line signifies levels of carbon dioxide (CO2). The two lines on the graph follow each other in a delicate dance, until the present, when the red CO2 shoots up, almost vertically.

Really, read some of the crap this "kid" has been writing, he is brainwashed beyond hope, and I'm sure he was before he even got to Duke.... Lucas Spangher from the Duke Chronicle.

Gee like maybe actually go to class and participate in school instead of drinking and going to bathhouses?

His bio: Lucas Spangher is a junior at Duke University with an avid interest in green energy technology. Lucas has been developing the role of chromophore doped carbon nantubes for use in photoelectrochemical production of hydrogen. I guess I'm showing my age, but this brought to mind cartoonist Al Capp's Lil' Abner strip that often featured leftist students in an organization called Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything.

Well, his highly educated parents must be so proud. Dad is an ER doc in Port Jefferson and his mom is a psychologist in Stony Brook . This kid embodies the what Occupy Wall Street hates. I wonder how he reconciles his upbringing with his white guilt education. Perhaps there should be student action at his parents’ house to incentivize them not to send him back to Duke.

Maybe the student body will move to Cuba (for some real protest voice), or Jonestown, Guyana (for some Jim Jones kind of statement)

Kool aid all around. Oh the house. I earlier thought about saying something about Ohio back in the 70’s but thought better of it. Think “crosby still and nash”.

Too true. His parents might very well be... maybe not. Seems like the collegiate kid thing is irritate the parents. Or the male has issues with Dad-— seems like all the time.

The number one takeaway from this for me was— complete disconnect from reality for the “real” people of the US— the 23 plus million out of work and no prospects— who are willing and have worked all their lives. The contrast with this twerp and the ivory towered perfumed world that is Duke and many other campuses. Whiners with trust funds—a major component of Occupy’s “leadership”. Very reminiscent of the same strata who did not want to get drafted to Vietnam, but who “loved freedom”. Could this be called 3rd generation boomer baby brats, the children of the children of the Greatest Generation of WWII? Or maybe further.

Your point is well spoken.Deo Vindice.
