Edward Snowden, 29, a former CIA technical assistant and current employee of military contractor Booz Allen Hamilton, went to the Guardian and the Washington Post newspapers and spilled national security secrets that he had promised not to divulge. U.S. Ambassador John Bolton puts that effort in the proper perspective:

What is “fishy” is your so-called logic, in in somehow trying to bring sex into this issue. Grow up,and don’t act like t he left.
I'd guess a bunch of spooks (maybe hundreds or thousands) were sitting around sipping brews at the Shady Back Alley Pub, talking about "somebody oughta do something about this whatever", and this fellow drew the short straw.
Odd, this is the first time I’ve seen so many people so intent on calling someone a traitor. Bradley Manning did the same thing, and I don’t recall him being denounced as a traitor - except perhaps here.
These are John Bolton's words describing Snowden. Cannot the same be said for most of our government officials, especially our banana republic dictator?
I can tell you that within the intel community, also those parts that despise Obama, that they would like to see him in jail.
Bingo. Thank you.
Lady Liberty needs the support around here these days.
Exactly.
If there were search warrants for every Mosque, that would be a good start.
Everything else in this PRISM mess is a DRAGNET of innocent Americans, in comparison to the obvious.
Terrorists are muslims. When the Feds purposefully misdirect themselves, you know the Tea Party is their target.
To some he is a god. To some those who believe the system of Government specified in the Constitution are traitors. Also every member of Congress swore an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution, yet a good good number of said members shit, piss, and spit upon the Constitution on a daily basis. Are they traitors? Or is Snowden for exposing them? Until Travis Mcgee comes out and says Snowden is a traitor, I will be on the side that says he is not. I respect Travis’ judgement to the degree that if our opinions differ, I automatically change to his because he is more knowledgeable than I on matters such as this. In my opinion.
Sorry, not a traitor. A nurse who tells a patient that they have a possibly still treatable cancer is not a traitor to the doctor she works for who doesn’t want to tell, because it would be embarrassing to him and the patient.
The nurse has the proper perspective. Embarrassment means nothing if your life, or in this case, our nation, is destroyed by those who imagine they are doing these things for out benefit.
The old communist nations proved beyond any doubt that government paranoia, intrusive surveillance, and keeping massive dossiers on all their citizens accomplished nothing of value. Following in their footsteps is madness.
The US has 16 major intelligence agencies, and the last several presidents have allowed, and even encouraged, them to run amok. Enough is enough. Either they are reformed or they become the enemy of the American people, and must be destroyed.
They have become cancer. It is not wrong to point that out.
I couldn’t find any source there that would let me sign on to leave a comment..........
What proof do you have that he even went to Hong Kong; or China; or Russia; or any other particular place? None.
The information exposed so far has not endangered or even upset anyone, EXCEPT the commie/NAZI anti-American traitors within our own government who have been targeting law-abiding American citizens, while letting muslim terrorists wander around undeterred, and letting tens of millions of invaders illegally enter the USA.
And one really neat benefit from these disclosures is that we've all watched some of these commie/NAZI anti-American traitors right here on FR expose themselves (at least by their screen name).
Pathetic cowards each and every one. Dishonorable pissants.
Are you saying he looks like Lee Harvey Oswald?
Megan Kelly invited a ‘criminal profiler’ on her show today in order to analyze Snowden’s body language. It was a perfect illustration of how ‘experts’ etc., have a need to pigeonhole individuals into categories.
In the televised interview; Edward Snowden does not use a teleprompter to describe his concerns; he presents his motivation rationally and thoughtfully. Profiler stated he ‘wanted notoriety and attention’. Should have gone to Jerry Springer or Roger Ailes????
All the talking heads are showing their bias against this ‘high school drop-out’.
Plenty of creative, successful drop-outs are the backbone of this Nation - but Bill Clinton is a Rhodes scholar. I rest my case;)
As far as abandoning his girlfriend and flight to Hong Kong - how would any of us behave once we made such a huge decision to ‘expose corruption’ in the most powerful Government agency?
To face charges of ‘treason’. That would put anyone in a fight or flight mode.
Putin probably wants to meet the girlfriend.
I’ve been looking for details but can’t seem to first.d firm answers ... exactly what did Snowden leak? Just that the government is collecting phone records? Was there more?
This is the only time I will ever support Obama......this disclosure has nothing to do with him, this data mining by the NSA has been in effect for several decades now, operating behind the scenes.
Virtually every president in the past 30 years that has given the NSA unrestricted power and finances is instrumental in the development of this monster that is now spying on us........
I’m just saying I don’t trust much of what we are being told.
“find”
Stupid smart phone auto correct.
Daniel Ellsberg had high level security clearance. Perhaps part of the problem with the current system, is that people without decent clearance have access to everything.
