It is not unusual for people to have rituals when flying on a plane, like wearing a St Christopher chain or keeping their eyes closed until they take off.
But one passenger took his beliefs a step further by covering himself in a plastic bag for the whole of his journey because his religion forbids him to fly over cemeteries.
This was the bizarre sight that greeted plane passengers when an Orthodox Jewish man covered himself under a plastic sheet.
It was believed the man is a Kohein, a religious descendant of the priests of ancient Israel, who are banned from flying over cemeteries.

Actually, he would be the escape slide.
“Did they do a lot of flying in ancient Isreal?”
My same thoughts.
So what? This is what diversity looks like.
I wish everybody who voted for Obama would do the same thing, no ventilation holes allowed.
Pharisaical show of extreme “piety” by a man with ego issues is my guess.

Other articles indicate he can’t prepunch holes in the plastic, which would be a problem.
my Father-in-law Abe(RIP) kindly carried a bagel and a cup of coffee to a Kohan one Saturday morning to welcome the gentleman to their Minyan.
The Kohan took a sip of the coffee and a bite of the bagel and then sternly denounced Abe for CARRYING the items on the Sabbath.
True story.
So being sealed in an aircraft doesn’t insulate him but getting inside a plastic bag does?
If I knew the guy doing this was a LtCol in an Air Force, I’d be more worried he was carrying anthrax in his checked baggage or knew something we didn’t.
It’s supposed to be a stand-in for a tent, which makes it OK, in his mind.
FWIW, I’m Orthodox, and a Kohanim, and this guy is a tool.
All religions have their fools, for whatever reason, people like to especially mock stupid Jewish ones.
I don’t think “ancient Israel” has airplanes, so this is obviously a new rule that makes no sense.
” people like to especially mock stupid Jewish ones.
Not me. I like to mock every fool regardless of religion.
