The news that Matt Smith is to leave his role in Doctor Who at the end of 2013 has already prompted speculation on the identity of his replacement.
A host of names have been suggested in Sunday's papers, among them Idris Elba, Dame Helen Mirren and John Hurt.

Idris Elba would be a welcome return to a more grown-up Christopher Eccleston-like Doctor. Luther in Space?
But, if you listened to the Smith Doctor just before it showed Hurt, he seems to say that the other [Hurt] is the dark side of him.
Dr: “He’s me. There’s only me here. That’s the point. ... I said he was me. I didn’t say was The Doctor. My name, my real name. That is not the point. The name I chose is ‘The Doctor.’ The name you chose is like a promise you make. He’s the one who broke the promise. He is my secret.”
Hurt: “What I did, I did without choice.”
Dr: “I know.”
Hurt: “In the name of peace and sanity.”
Dr: “But not in the name of The Doctor.”
1. You have to fix the link:

2. Delete everything between http:// and www.hulu.com/watch/231263:

3. Open the above address in a new tab.
I did this, and hulu tried to force me to watch ads, so I closed the tab, but if you don’t mind shutting off your ad blocker and/or watching ads, you’ll get to the video eventually.
That’s their strength. They do as many episodes as they believe in and no more. Keeps them from having “filler” episodes like all American shows do.
I felt like you until Daniel Craig showed up.
I was completely blown away by Craig's first Bond film.
Connery was great and defined the character in many ways.
But for me, Craig took Bond to a whole new level.
A female Doctor would be the worst sort of PC disaster. It would doom the show.
And those two seasons were four years apart. I see no reason to force more than artists feel they can deliver with quality.
If that had happened probably 30 of the episodes would be crap. There’s 12 episodes of FT because Cleese and Booth with 12 episodes they considered good enough, with a 4 year gap between those seasons. And the BBC tried to get more out of them, but they just couldn’t put them together. So yes we have “only” 12 episodes, but they’re 12 of the funniest half hours in TV history, and we don’t have to skip crappy episodes to get to the good ones when we watch it. The BBC model of “how many good episodes to you have” allows for a much more consistent product than the American model of “give me 22, and do em fast”.
And the episodes themselves have a much higher scene count than American TV show episodes do.
Never mind the quality, feel the width
Matt Smith was HORRIBLE! Creepy-looking and boring! I’d love Karl Urban or some of the yummy down under guys. SOMEone with some sexuality! Geez BBC, come ON!
“some of the yummy down under guys. SOMEone with some sexuality!”
Like Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker? The Doctor is supposed to be a paternal figure not a boy toy.
Please ...
The one I didn’t care for was Eccleston for reasons elucidated here...the language is salty but this is really funny and dead on...

Do better than that. What’s your beef?
Yikes, he hasn’t been “a paternal figure” for decades. Not even Paul McGann.
Nice.
