New research suggests wooly mammoths, the gigantic cousins of modern elephants, also died out as a result of climate change following a cosmic impactand that blast may have shocked human populations as well.
Either a comet scraping the atmosphere or a meteorite slamming into the Earth caused global-scale combustion, scorching the air, melting bedrock and altered the course of Earths history, according to researcher Kenneth Tankersley of the University of Cincinnati.
Tankersley said while the cosmic strike had an immediate and deadly effect, the long-term side effects were far more devastating similar to Krakatoas aftermath but many times worse making it unique in modern human history. Toxic gas poisoned the air and clouded the sky, he argues, causing temperatures to plummet.

[But] "humans of the Younger Dryas were hunter-gatherers. When catastrophe struck, they found news ways and new places to hunt game and gather wild plants, he said."

So primitive humans were able to survive and adapt after a global catastrophe, but we must sacrifice every modern convenience we have at the alter of climate change?
Liberals are weird.

Mammoths don’t have air brakes!
To: rjbemsha
They died off because of all the human made camp fires.

Mammoths without parachutes. I thought it was whales and potted plants that fell from space.

It seems like Woolly Mammoths, with their warm fur coats, would have had a better chance of survival in a sudden ice age than naked Elephants. I wonder why?

All I can say is out neolithic ancestors had balls to go after a Mammoth with nothing but a sharp stick. To me this is incomprehensible or mammoth meat was really tasty. I am sure poking a mammoth really pissed off the mammoth.
