Marriage makes people happier than religious beliefs, earning six-figure salaries and having children, a study for the Office of National Statistics has found for the first time.
The ONS has found that being married is 20 times more important to a persons well-being than their earnings, and 13 times more important than owning a home.
The figures also indicate that having children has almost no impact on a persons day-to-day happiness, although it does make them feel life is more worthwhile.

Marriage? If I want companionship I'll buy a dog. They are more loyal cheaper, and nobody really cares if you take them out in the woods and shoot them. As long as you have a good reason.

I have a poster on my wall at work that lists 20 steps to being happy and successful...it has all the usual things such as “Be the hardest working person you know” etc.
But number one on the list is: “Marry the right person. 90% of your happiness and satisfaction in life depends on this.”
I believe that 100%.

Well, what's the point of that money if you never want to go home and enjoy it?

I don’t personally have anything to compare this to. I don’t really remember what it was like to not be married. I do have a 7 figure income, if you ignore the little dot in there.

Exactly. Some marriages are a living Hell that you’d pay a six figure salary and pray in church every day to get out of . . . . .

Sure and the reason 2 out of 3 marriages fail is.......?
To: Olog-hai
This whole report is off. It implies causality where there’s no basis for doing so. Also, marriage is reported as being many times more a factor of happiness than some other factors—and then it turns out it only correlates with a 1.4% difference on their scale. So they are slicing and dicing very finely and then imputing causality to boot.

But are both partners in that marriage religious conservatives who are not focused inward at their respective selves?

Sadly, that is true sometimes. I lucked out in that department of life. I feel bad for people who miss out on the real thing.
