A record 72,600,000 were enrolled in Medicaid for at least one month in fiscal 2012, up from 71,700,000 in fiscal 2011, according to the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC), which provides an annual statistical report to Congress on Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

The 72,600,000 enrolled in Medicaid in the United States in 2012 was more than the 65,630,692 people who lived in France last year, according to data published by the Census Bureau, or the 63,047,162 people who lived in the United Kingdom. …

I work and receive no help from the government of any kind. I am the biggest sucker in the world. One of these days I’m going to wake up and decide to sit at home and let you all just take of my every need. But today is not that day.

This is how Obama defines “recovery”.

I hear you; I’m just glad that the parasites that out-voted us haven’t shut down our jobs (those of us still able to find work). I assure you I don’t tell my children: “Ask what you can do for your country.”; I’m already feeding, housing, and schooling many of my countrymen. Until the ants outnumber the grasshoppers again, don’t expect much to change; Obama’s grasshoppers showed up in full force, and his policies have involuntarily morphed many ants into grasshoppers.

“I work and receive no help from the government of any kind.”

You highlight a good point.

“ANY kind” is the operative phrase.

From the standpoint of a financially insolvent society, there is no difference between a so-called conservative on Social Security and Medicare, or an illegal alien on food stamps and Medicaid.

There aren’t enough of YOU (or me) to keep paying the bills.

So we need to have less spending of all kinds.

That’s where it all falls apart - some people think “their” checks from the government are sacrosanct, and “other” checks should be cut.

Therefore nothing gets cut - and we’re going off the cliff.

You missed a group ~ rather large in fact. They have always been known as ‘coupon clippers’ ~ “...... they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these......” (courtesy Luke 12:27)

Spot on. I've seen far too many "conservatives" on this site arguing in favor of goverment spending, government programs, government freebies and government intrusion -- because they deserve it, they are entitled to it, they paid into it, or because the government action "just makes sense". Sure, sure, cut the other stuff, but my stuff is important.

It's no wonder we can't get back to Limited Government.

And yet, the House (wait, isn’t that headed by the GOP?) can’t get a budget with the (OUTRAGEOUS) deficit of $400B (per Bush years).

In fact, I haven’t heard, seen or read ANYTHING from the ‘leadership’ of what roll-backs they have accomplished, aside from the 136x for O’Care, dept. ZERO’d out, etc.

IE: We’re getting screwed by both sides, but some here will still fight for the (R) brand.

We are doomed.

I have an uncle with a doctorate in the hard sciences and because of his liberalism he denies that the mathematics of government spending are unsustainable.

I don’t even bother to argue the immorality of it.

I agree that the parties are two heads of the same hydra; Bush II was a disaster. I voted for him twice, and would vote for him again, because of the positions he took regarding family/life and affirmative action (though nothing actually changed); I can’t imagine how anything would be different if we’d had Gore or Kerry as president for those 8 years. The only legacy of GWB (besides two lost wars) is slightly lower income taxes.

Obama has messed up the medical treatment of millions on medicare by cutting rates so much, doctors have had to drop elderly patients. The elderly paid for (they thought and were told by the government) medical care benefits in their old age. They planned their retirements around that benefit.

Medicaid is another welfare program. It will explode after they make 10 million (I think it is more like thirty million) illegals eligible for welfare. Our country and people are so screwed! Obama wants his obamacare to fail so the commies can go for single payer. Even though single payer works nowhere it has been installed, liberals still want it and name it progress. They have dogged a bad idea - communism - for decades. They are not going to ever give up - until we are all poor and, preferably, dead.

And, yet, most here bash a 3rd party as ‘kooky’ or ‘out of touch’.

‘Us’ Libertarians: limited gov’t vs. A1S8. Notice, that does not mean that STATES cannot continue their Drug War, War on Poverty, War on XYZ; knowing the role of the Fed IS to secure the border and protect the Citizens/Rights. But, since their ox is getting gored there (SS, Medicare, etc.) you’d think they were Stalin/Satan himself.

Kinda hard to admit ‘your’ own party is part of the problem when one cannot notice they’ve got ‘you’ by the short hairs and/or backing up their same, despicable actions just because ‘you’ expect a promise made by some politician.

I have yet to understand how ANYONE could build their lives, especially in ‘old age’ on promises from gov’t?!

Let alone ALLOWING the same to steadily usurp the ability to be self-sufficient at the same time (AKA Income taxes, max. contributions to 401/Roth, etc.)

It won’t be too many decades when I must worry about the same for myself, but I foresee the young rising up to cut off the gravy train their great-great-XYZ promised themselves on their backs.

I’m for much smaller government, but am not liberal enough to be “libertarian” - I think Judeo-Christian values DO have a role in the public sphere (look where dropping them has gotten us - far fewer families, masses dependent on gubmint, widespread displays of deviance).

Those supporting a third party are portrayed as “kooky/out of touch” by those who would force them back into the two-party (de facto one-party) system. I think they can have some success in local races, but any “third party” or “independent” politicians in high offices tend to caucus with Dems anyway - they are Dems by another (usually more colorful) name.

I doubt the younger generation is going to “rise up” to cut their parents’ promised retirement benefits. Then the children will end up paying to help them survive the corruption (theft). They are not going to watch their parents take up residence under a bridge in their old age or be abused.

You are spouting radical libertarian slogan nonsense. The government owes the banksters money they borrowed, just like the government owes a return on benefits paid for by the elderly all their working lives. Social Security and Medicare is a debt that must be paid, too.
