Too much coffee can lead to weight gain and other health problems, even if drinkers stick to decaffeinated, according to research.
Experts warned that drinking five or more cups a day increased the amount of fat stored in the abdomen.
It was revealed that even a moderate intake of coffee in the average day could also lead to problems such as increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Repeated studies in the past have shown that coffee can have benefits for regular drinkers, including lowing the chances of a stroke and certain forms of cancer.

They forget the effect of the 5 donuts that go with that coffee.

I think obesity is more of a matter regarding entirely too much free time to eat mostly processed foods and quickie pasta dishes...
There was a time when we had to work pretty hard just to keep a roof over our heads and forage or grow gardens for winter food. Hopefully selling the excess for money to buy farm equipment and pay mortgages..Or is in the city, you worked your butt off 12 hours a day with no time for frivolities.
Today we spend all of that extra time sitting, eating, and drinking.....
So really, that’s the problem....and to deal with it is fairly easy or should be. But for most it is not. So they seek answers from people who don’t really understand the questions..
That’s my two cents...
When I lived among the Yankees in Mass. I found out they call people who take cream and sugar ‘regular’ coffee drinkers.

Not to worry, you will be in good company! My coffee cup is an extension of my arm.
Had surgery a number of years ago and had to go decaf for a bit. My boss at that time was ready to call the doctor and see how soon I could go back on the leaded kind.
Did they differentiate “black” drinkers from “cream and/or sugar” drinkers?
Probably gain weight because they are adding creamer, sugar, chocolate and all sorts of other goodies.
No one seems to be sure if coffee is good or bad. Maybe they should stop wasting money on the studies.
Maybe it’s the cream in the coffee, or the donuts and crullers. I’d have to see the controls on this study before I’d buy the conclusion.
Of course there was just another survey posted here several weeks ago that says drinking coffee is good for you. I like that one better.
