'It made him look like a butler': Retired general blasts President Obama for ordering U.S. Marine to break military rules by holding an umbrella The President unwittingly forced two U.S Marines to break protocol and regulations as he ordered them to use umbrellas Former United States Air Force Lieutenant Thomas McInerney criticized the President for making the officers look like butlers

President Obama humiliated the marine who he asked to hold his umbrella by making him look like a butler, a respected military general claimed today. Thomas McInerney, a former United States Air Force Lieutenant General, said that the President showed a lack of respect by making the soldier shelter him from a shower. He also said that the President has plenty of aides so did not understand why one of them could not have held the umbrella.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the the stripes on the shoulders indicates the marine holding the umbrella over Obama is a non-commissioned ‘officer’.
Funny though, I don’t remember the foreign press or a retired LG getting all worked up about it back then. There are more than enough reasons to criticize politicians, this bullshit “controversy” is nonsense.
The Marines know how to get their own back.
For eight years Clinton stepped off Marine One, took the Marine’s salute, and no one on his staff noticed that the Marine failed to face toward his back until he was out of sight.
Army officers in dress blues were ordered to carry canape trays for the assembled WH guests. Senior Army officers ordered to brief the CoC were ordered to report to the WH in civilian clothes.
Yes, a Marine may hold an umbrella for a woman. That must have made his onerous duty somewhat tolerable.
LOL! From the look on the Marine’s face, that’s probably just exactly what he was thinking...
See post #43.
Limos, flights and hotel all booked for graduation in San Diego. It’s going to be amazing!
I guess it is different strokes for different folks and this could apply to a high ranking commissioned officer who held nco’s with some regard.
Obama has two hands. He could use one to put his Thumb up his A$$ and he could use the other to hold the Umbrella.
Think of the symbolism for the rest of the world. Obama has a US Marine holding an umbrella over a Muslim leader like a low-caste lackey. What is becoming really clear here is that someone other than Obama is running the show. It would be the only answer for the fact that no one seems to know anything about who ordered the stand-down for Benghazi, no one knows who ordered Rice out with the false story about the video, no one knows who ordered the targeting of conservative organizations by the IRS and no one can figure out who is behind the seizing of the AP phone records. The truth is that we have an unelected, shadow government running the country. That sap who testified today at the IRS hearings had been set up, which was no revelation to him. This was an orchestrated effort by parties unknown, and he was the fall guy who was probably promised a big plum at the end of the investigation. That would account for his total attitude of contempt He knew it was just a show, and he knows he’ll be rewarded in the end by parties unknown.
Good points.
Secret Service need both hands free at all times in case of... trouble. That's why one refused to carry Hillary's luggage once.
oops, that is true. he should have had Valerie Jarrett holding one and Jay Carney the other one.
Thanks for the pic & the ping, respectively.
He also said that the President has plenty of aides so did not understand why one of them could not have held the umbrella.

Oh, I can answer that question. Having one of his aides hold the umbrella would not have allowed the Dear Leader to show disrespect for the officer.
Isn’t that Idi Amin (sp?)
You are absolutely correct. So frightening to contemplate how much power those unknown people have.
