After Tiger Woods won his second Players Championship on Sunday and Sergio Garcia claimed he had been the "victim" in his flap with Woods over the weekend, a Players marshal revealed that Woods's account of what happened on the second hole in the third round when he was paired with Garcia was not true and said the world's top-ranked golfer lacked character.
In the rain-shortened third round of The Players Championship last weekend, Garcia was frustrated that he hit a poor approach shot on the second hole and blamed it on the commotion Woods caused when he pulled a five-wood out of his bag before Garcia finished hitting his shot. Woods claimed the marshals told him Garcia had already hit his ball.
According to Sports Illustrated, "the marshals were surprised" by Woods's comments.
Gary Anderson, one of the marshals, told Sports Illustrated, He didnt ask us nothing, and we didnt say nothing. Were told not to talk to the players.
John North, "the chief marshal for the first three holes" who "stood over Woodss ball to protect it from the throng and was five feet away when Woods played his shot," also said the marshals did not say anything to Woods.
Nothing was said to us and we certainly said nothing to him, North said. I was disappointed to hear him make those remarks. Were there to help the players and enhance the experience of the fans. He was saying what was good for him. It lacked character.
According to Sports Illustrated, North is a graduate of the Naval Academy, served in Vietnam, and is a FedEx pilot who "donates his round on the Stadium course for being a volunteer to the Wounded Warriors project."

Really? I’m no fan of the NFL or NBA players, but I haven’t heard of any of them lying or cheating in two consecutive major events. Let’s be honest. Tiger Woods is an empty vessel. Totally without character. Due to the nature of the game, PGA players are more openly ostracized by their peers than other professional athletes, so let Tiger enjoy his isolation.
“Tiger is well-known to apply some considerable gamesmanship ploys during a round as a means of unnerving or intimidating his competition.”
It happens all the time in all kinds of professions. People who lack character will retaliate in ways we’ve all heard of...Key-jobs on the car in the parking lot, lies about another person’s past or present, allegations of racism, sexual orientation rumors, harassing anonymous phone calls and e-mail, false accusations of theft of office materials...It’s not just golf and it’s not just Tiger Woods. Tiger is well within the bounds of civility. I’m disgusted with the lack of civility in people I’ve had to work with when we’re all supposed to be professionals. It’s like another kind of liberal media keeping tabs on people in case they find what they think they can use as “dirt”.
This article is incorrect, based on what I read elsewhere. Garcia did not complain, and he reluctantly answered a question about the distraction.
Apparently a few years ago after Woods beat Garcia (who was dressed in a hat to shoes yellow outfit) he sent a text to a friend saying “I just bludgeoned Tweety Bird”. Not a fan of Tiger but that was awfully damned funny.
Let’s not ignore Tiger’s other violation, the illegal drop on 14.

...of course, this was somebody else’s fault also.
I heard he never complained about it. He was asked a specific question by a reporter, and tried to play it down.
The two biggest similarities between Eldrick and Baraq is that the press have serious man-crushes on each. “A Fawning Love Affair”, as Bernie Goldberg might say.
Hahaha!
Thanks, I needed that.
Hrruuumph.
This is great. We need more men of character stepping forth and calling these limelight clowns on their lies. They’re just men like all the rest of us. Being good at golf doesn’t make you anything special.
Two situations:
1. Tiger apparently lied - he shouldn’t have.
2. Sergio certainly whined - he shouldn’t have.
Apparently, there was a “mild roar” when Woods pulled out the 5-wood to go for the green - a tough shot from where he was. “Mild roars” are heard quite frequently at a golf tournament. Sergio should have just ignored it.
Tiger Woods is a SERIAL liar. That fact is beyond dispute. He might be a great golfer. He will never be considered a great man. He might break Jack Nicklaus’s record. He will NEVER be the MAN Jack Nicklaus is.
Let’s see if the hero worshipping, sychophant, golf announcers have, pardon the expression, the balls to bring up the LIE Tiger told. Advice: Don’t hold breath.
Tiger’s fault... Tiger is the new Bush.

Another reason why golf can’t be considered a sport. Anything you can do in your church clothes is not a sport.
My pleasure...
His drop was a TRAVESTY. It was clearly a bad drop. The drop was defended by the “drop your pants and bend over for Tiger” announcers. Is there ANY ONE with integrity left in golf to challenge this cheater?
I’m just screwing around. I’m no Tiger Woods fan...except the video game.
It wasnt so much the club pulling that was/is the issue. Like so many other acts, its usually the lies and cover-ups that follow that reveal character.
Nothing new! He’s just another “Holder’s Person!” He’s Black (or at least he “looks” black) so he gets away with it.
