Applying for federal student aid? The application no longer asks about a students mother and father. Instead, the U.S. Education Department is replacing those terms with Parent 1 and Parent 2.
All students should be able to apply for federal student aid within a system that incorporates their unique family dynamics, said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in the April 29 announcement.
These changes will allow us to more precisely calculate federal student aid eligibility based on what a students whole family is able to contribute and ensure taxpayer dollars are better targeted toward those students who have the most need, as well as provide an inclusive form that reflects the diversity of American families.

Building the New Man isn’t easy. A prerequisite is destruction of both the family and civil society.
The phrase “New Man” is yet another blasphemy, what with the hard left accusing God of getting it wrong the first time.
“He that has not got a wife, is not yet a complete man.” 18th Century
Parent 1-2, would be for women’s libbers.
Isn’t “parent 1”, “parent 2”, discriminatory? I mean, come one, ‘1’, ‘2’? Everyone knows 1 as in ‘first’ is superior to 2. This is orderism! This will not stand. The form should read ‘parent’ and for the other ‘parent’... and what about 3, 4, or N parent households. This form is a travesty of modern thinking.
Whole family? for those who are supported by 'the state' - shouldn't that also be listed as a parent?
And what about divorce? Parent 1-2-3-4...if all parties on their 3 marriage..1-2-3-4-5-6 or maybe make them all 1/2 parents or 1/3-1/4-1/6.
Then there's the Poly-amorous families....1-2-3-4-5,etc.
Or the parent that is married to what was once classified as a minor?
What if your 'parent' has legal relations with an animal? Then what? For financial aid purposes a work horse should be classified differently than a show dog.
Applying 'modern thinking'...
Studies have shown that gays earn 7%+ more than straights. So they should get less funding.
